Exodus=Fallout

3.5/d20/OGL

Was wondering if anybody had run across the Exodus game from Glutton Creeper. I've been eying it for a while, due to the fact that before the licence was yanked by Bethesda, it was the Fallout d20 game. And it was partially designed by Jason Mical, the mind behind the old free PnP Fallout.

So, have you played this? If so, what did you think? And also curious what other systems/setting may have been converted to Fallout, so I have a general idea of where to start looking.

Thanks.

I watched it for a while. The numerous spelling errors on the web page didn't exactly inspire confidence in the quality of their product.

I did play a game of the old Fallout Pen and Paper RPG that used the SPECIAL d10 system. It was OK, but I though the d10 system was a little too cumbersome. That game had great fan made sourcebooks though.

I have read discussions elsewhere that basically indicate similar... nice idea, poor execution, bad production quality. Even after it turned into Exodus--where they added a "Mad Max" feel to replace the retro50sfuture, from what I've read and seen reviews of, the results were less than stellar.

And I don't think they could provide the best support they could because Bethesda's lawsuit came up before they could do much about it. That took up a lot of GC's time and resources. That part of which is a shame because I think as far as Glutton Creeper knew, they had the rights to an RPG from Interplay, and it was Interplay's subsequent deal with Bethesda that made things all screwy. That and while I'm sure Bethesda did have technically the right to do what they did, their penchance for bullying the little guy didn't make it any better. If the folks at Bethesda/Zenimax had any combination of compassion and sense, they would have worked out a deal with GluttonCreeper, edited and re-released the game as a co-publisher, and probably profited. Perhaps even considerably.

*sigh* Anyway... options for Fallout gaming include---

1. d20 Modern had a cheap and neat little "Apocalypse" supplement which even had rad-roach stats in it, as well as a barter-based wealth system and a number of other useful systems and ideas applicable to a Fallout based (as well as other post-apocalypse based) world. You could fairly easily set up a d20 Modern game without an insane amount of prep.

2. Fallout was originally going to use GURPS as the basis for the video game mechanics, and then Steve Jackson backed out because they decided they didn't want to be associated with such a grim, gritty game (I think it was the fact that you could kill children that made them back out). But as GURPS was the intended system for it, you could probably devise a Fallout-based GURPS game pretty well, I imagine.
