Of late, the games I have joined have had a shorter shelf-life than a glass of milk on a hot day. So I decided to take control of matters and GM a second campaign.
I have been working for a month now on a home-brew affair – to compliment the AP I’m currently running. It’s set in Cassomir for a number of reasons:
1. The Cities of Golarion sourcebook
2. The associated beautiful map
3. The Taldor campaign sourcebook
Ideally I wanted an area that both excited me and that hadn’t been covered in pre-published adventures. This in theory excluded all areas with sourcebooks – but I pressed on regardless.
Taldor – and specifically Cassomir – offered enough scope to allow me to run something home-brewed without cutting across established adventures. But I digress…
This is not a first come, first served posting. I have done all of the background to start the game straight away, but I want to take a few days to allow players to see the post and come up with a reason why they should be included. I’ll accept emails until the end of this week-end (the 21st).
Those interested should email me at: cassomir at betternovelwriting dot com and not on this thread. This thread is for you to ask questions that I haven’t answered.
So what do I want from your email? I really need the following:
Why you as a player?
What do you want from the game? What can you bring to the game? Point me at a character that best demonstrates how you PbP.
What would be your character concept?
This could be as simple as a couple of lines. I do not want a full character. Please don’t invest the time in creating one (or worst still just point me to a pre-created one for a game that didn’t last). This character concept may not be used in the final cut – it is the player I am interested in at this stage, not the character.
What can I tell you that will help?
Posting
I expect players to post daily. I will use the board’s dice roller and will provide maps via Flickr or googledocs.
Players
I will start with 7 players. There will be no reserve list once the game starts. If one or two drop out, I have factored that in.
Style and substance
I will endeavour to use American spellings but my English will sometimes creep in (no apologies – just an observation). So I’ll make every effort to write armor when my brain wants to write armour.
I will use maps wherever possible and I will give plenty of opportunity to develop the story in the way you want.
I like to GM role-playing. I anticipate plenty of interaction between PCs and with the NPCs. If you only like combat, this is not the game for you.
I expect this to be an inclusive game. Players will have a big say in the party composition, adventures chosen etc. I will have house rules, but I’ll be clear and up front about these.
Background
Your characters will have arrived in Cassomir looking for adventure. Are you running from something or towards something? No characters will be locals. This will allow you to learn about the city as you progress.
What is your character’s goal? What separates them from the ‘vanilla’ heroes that I see so often? One house rule up front is that there will be no evil PCs.
Game length
I expect this to be a long campaign. I have over 100 ‘adventures’ sketched out already and you will head in the direction you want, not one an adventure path forces you down.
I will, however, insist that you remain in and around Cassomir though – at least to begin with.
Miscellaneous
Don’t worry about point buys, starting gold etc. That will be revealed when the party is agreed. I expect to start at 1st level – I know this has challenges but I want the group to grow together.
As stated before, use this thread for questions I haven't anticipated.
If you've read this far, thanks...I look forward to your email.

*raises hand*
Okey's puttin' m'self forwards as an example of whut ye're askin'. ^_^
Also, see here,
Here,
And here,
For three other threads where there is also a character bein' run by "Me". I'll let you guess as to which characters I'm playin'. (^_~) Though following this character link back and comparing and contrasting will also show you which they are.
I currently have some characters who's games have also petered out and with DM's perusal would be maybe interested in 'revamping' them to suit this new game.
"Waste not, want not." (^_~) as the saying goes. Cheery-O!

*curtsies* Why thank you.
Um, why for should one submit an e-mail?
Characters are beginning at 1st level? I would think Tyr might be the interesting character to get working again. Will you also be using/allowing the Golarion companion? With out such I fear poor Tyr will not quit be the character he is now.
Although building/using yet another version of my Sunshine avatar would also be fun. (^_~)
Cheers!

I have loved the material on both Cassomir and Taldor. Its even got me thinking of putting together my own campaign set in and around Cassomir. So, the idea of setting a game there sounds very cool to me.
Unfortunately, I'm already in two PbPs and don't want to add another to an already busy schedule. Good luck with it and I'll be reading along if you plan on running it on these boards.
If somewhere down the line you wind up needing a replacement player, maybe I can jump in then. Cheers!

I am interested in throwing in a bid to play, but there doesn't seem to be an email given.

I don't write the addy conventionally as spambots are all over sites like this and I'll be getting all sorts of emails before I know it.

So what classes are options? Can you play, say, a summoner?
Good question - it stops me becoming smug and thinking I covered all of the bases.
You will be able to play any Paizo PF published race and class. That includes the latest round of the play-test. All Paizo traits go too - including sourcebooks (but I'd check with me first as I never allow the one that gives you extra traits).
Third party is a strong possibility e.g. Tome of Secrets but absolutely by discussion. Playing a third party created race is likely to be a no-no however.
Now you have me paranoid. Have I missed something?
Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

This game sounds like it could be fun. I've fallen behind my homework a bit after an unexpectedly eventful weekend, but if I can catch up before the deadline I'll send an email your way.
You mention in and around Cassomir; how far beyond the city are you talking? Also, I don't have access to Cities of Golarion, so my knowledge of Cassomir is limited to what's presented in other sources. What details can you give surrounding your adventure ideas that might help generate a character concept?
| Heaven's Agent |
I'm familiar with Taldor; I helped a bit in the design of that article. But the wiki's information on Cassomir is bare bones at best. Posts on these boards with additional information on the city itself are essentially nonexistent. I don't want to try using additional resources on the net because I have no way of verifying the authenticity of their information, even if I could find some with content not contained in previous sources.
I guess what I'm asking is, what else makes the city stand out? Who are its influential citizens? What events pertain to the initial handfuls of adventures you have. I know Cassomir's a port trade city, its size and position in the region, and that it serves as the primary shipyards of the Taldan navy. Other than that, I have no information available with which to build a character's motivations.

First and foremost, there's nothing wrong with focussing on what you do know. Think of something around what you are familiar with and then have Cassomir as simply a port in a storm.
You could have gained passage on a ship from an Inner Sea region heading for the Sellen River en route to Galt, Kyonin, Mendev or the River Kingdoms. You heard that Cassomir was a good place to stay if you fancied a life of adventure in a new land.
You could be a follower of Aroden and like many others, believe he's not really dead and want to travel to Taldor to lay this particular ghost to rest.
Or are you with a merchant that needed to stop at Cassomir and something bad happened and left you stranded?
Cassomir is about adventuring, the naval dockyards and the sea trades. There's the nearby druids of the Wildwood Lodge (important for the sale of blackwood for the ships).
Hope this helps...don't forget, at the outset nobody will be local, so knowledge will neither be expected nor helpful.

Just a quick update...
I have ten applications so far - so unfortunately I will have to say no to some people. Don't, however, let that put you off applying if you haven't already.
What is it with the Inquisitor class? Is it that people haven't played one yet and are excited to or is it so cool to play? I'll have to join a new game just to try one out. As my games played has dropped by another one in the last couple of days I may have time (but I'll get this up and running before I consider anything).
I'm busy scanning maps and map packs at present - but I just know the players will want to start somewhere I haven't prepared...

No drum roll or fanfare, but the players chosen are (in no particular order):
Itsgottabeodin
Kobold Cleaver
Grufflehead
Epic Viper
Badslacker
Heaven's Agent
Cry Havoc!
Could they kindly make their way to the OOC thread here...
To everyone else that applied – many thanks. I could only pick seven and and if one of the players drops out before the game starts, I’ll let you know here.
