I just love Gorum. I find it a near-perfect fit for my idea of a Crom-worshipping Cimmerian adapted to the Golarion setting.
But, even though I see quite well how my character will be living his special relation to Gorum, I had trouble imagining what Gorum himself would talk, think, behave like, what his principles and commandments might be like.
Until I met Marvel Comics' Ares.
Your typical badass CN greater god of war, who cares for nothing but the thrill of battle and the glory of triumph.
I wanted to share this epiphany with you all, just in case it speaks to you as strongly as it spoke to me.
The Ares mini-serie, as well as the "God of Fear, God of War" issue of the Secret Warriors, are choke full of enlightening quotes for exactly this kind of character.
The one that got me in love ?
"No one I select for my squad of shades will ever lose a fight for the rest of their life.
It's just that the rest of your life may be somewhat shorter than you'd expect."

Gorum still has Holy Scriptures detailing what He expects of his faithful (even if by way of depicting his actions).
Examples taken from the aforementioned comic books :
- There will always be War
- Good and Evil are for man. Not I
- I need no favors. I am my own god
- Honor above everything
- Brook no insults
- Honor for your comrades and no one else
- Leave no god/man behind
- Some commanders NEED blowing up
Well, you get the drift.

That sounds suspiciously like something some wannabe-gorumite bard in some weak, "civilised" area might talk about.
Gorum doesn't care about that stuff. He wants to to fight and take joy in it, and he wants you to do it in the enemy's face. No cowards. The rest kinda takes care of itself.
I definitely don't see an "honour above everything" with him. Sure, he hates poison, but only because that's not a real fight. If anything, it's "war above everything".
And I don't think he gives a damn whether you leave anyone behind. He's Gorum, not Mal Reynolds. ;-P
