This is my attempt to translate Beowulf to Dnd in a version as faithful as possible to the poetic version, using Pathfinder. It was originally posted at Dicefreaks, here, and at that link you will find stats for other Norse heroic figures in the future.
These stats aren't necessarily suited to use in a game, but could be made so with minimum effort. The main thing required would be modifying the gear; adding "utility" adventuring items such as rings of protection and cloaks of resistance appropriate to their level, as well as toning down the weapon bonuses - unless you want to hand your party's sixth level fighter a +5 unholy wounding longsword for defeating Unferth, or some such. As it stands now, equipment is distributed with complete disregard for what is level-appropriate, in favor of following the story as written.
CHARACTERS FROM BEOWULF
Beowulf fighting Grendel's Mother
The following custom material is used. I make no particular guarantees about its balance. I don't think it is game breaking, but it was designed with Beowulf, not the general population in mind.
New Rage Power:
Mighty Grip (Ex): The barbarian gains a +2 enhancement bonus to grapple checks. This increase is always active while the barbarian is raging. A barbarian must be at least 10th level before selecting this power.
New Feat:
Heroic Endurance
You can endure incredibly extreme conditions that would undoubtedly kill lesser men.
Prerequisites: Endurance, Con 21+
Benefits: You gain a +4 bonus on the following checks and saves: Swim checks made to resist nonlethal damage from exhaustion; Constitution checks made to continue running; Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from a forced march; Constitution checks made to hold your breath; Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from starvation or thirst; Fortitude saves made to avoid nonlethal damage from hot or cold environments; and Fortitude saves made to resist damage from suffocation. This bonus stacks with the bonus from the Endurance feat.
You may hold your breath for ten minutes per point of Constitution before starting to make Constitution checks to avoid drowning or suffocation, and you make such checks once every ten minutes instead of once per round.
You may go ten times longer than normal before beginning to make any other checks which would gain a bonus for this feat (such as Swim checks to avoid exhaustion), and you make such checks ten times less frequently than normal.

Greater Rage: Beowulf may enter a rage as a free action, and may rage for a total of 36 rounds per day. While raging, he has a +6 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution, a +3 morale bonus to Will saves, and a -2 penalty to AC (all noted above). While in rage, Beowulf cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.
Beowulf can end his rage as a free action, after which he is fatigued for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in rage.
Beowulf has the following rage powers: Moment of Clarity, Roused Anger, Mighty Grip (see below), Powerful Blow (+4 damage), Mighty Swing, Strength Surge (+13).
Improved Uncanny Dodge: Beowulf cannot be caught flat-footed, even if the attacker is invisible. He cannot be flanked. This denies a rogue the ability to sneak attack him by flanking him, unless the rogue is at least 17th level.

I haven't noted them in the stat-blocks themselves. I could do that if you prefer.
For reference, though, I have Beowulf as a 13th level barbarian, Grendel as a 16HD troll with the advanced template (and some customization), Unferth as a 7th level fighter, Wiglaf as a 5th level fighter, Beowulf's companions as 4th level fighters, and Hrothgar's thanes as 3rd level fighters.
