Liberty's Edge

Has anyone seen this?

Dorian Gray (2009)

What happened here? I never heard of it until now.

Added to Netflix cue. Gaslight London: woo-hoo!

ARGH! <weeps>

Is it that bad?

I have no idea. I actually want to see it. My reaction was that I was going to plug it into my Netflix queue too ... only to suddenly remember I had cancelled it a week ago today. :(

Wow, I never even heard about this. From the trailer, it looks like they eliminated the character of Basil, the painter. The black and white Picture of Dorian Grey is worth a watch, since it's pretty close to the original Oscar Wilde story and I believe it features a young Angela Lansbury. Not to mention the portrait itself by Ivan Albright, which is itself terrific even though you see it maybe twice.

Having gone to art school, The Picture of Dorian Grey was a frequent assignment.

I watched it a few weeks ago. Very good.

It has been a loooong time since I read the original story, so I can't speak to it's accuracy, but as a suspense/horror film I think it holds up very well.

I saw previews of the movie but never saw any adverts for a theater run. The previews looked really good so I'll pick it up a Best Buy when I have a chance.

Liberty's Edge

Just finished it, and I find it stands quite well on its own. Some definite departures from Wilde, but I think the changes were very well done and helped the film maintain its pace. Really, a remarkable translation to film (of the idea, if not the unadulterated novel), and ably done for a contemporary audience.

How many stars? By what percentage is Andrew similar to Mairkurion? How many viewers found his review helpful?

I for one was quite upset when I saw that there were no movie release dates for the U.S.

But since it is out for DVD now I am definitely going to buy it.

I was quite a fan of the book.

Liberty's Edge

This film was not released in the US due to the homoerotic scenes in it. The British production company thought that it would turn off most American viewers. Most Americans who have waited some time to see this film are outraged, and have saught alternative venues for seeing the film.

Basil is indeed present. He's the one with the yellow scarf in the trailers.

I've seen it. It captures the essence of Wilde's novel in a chilling way. Highly recommended.
