Liberty's Edge

I got to thinking after reading some of the "Customs?" thread, that I'd really like to see PDF Only Subscriptions. I'm not especially interested in a further discount for PDF's, mainly the option of subscribing and being able to get the PDF at the same time as other subscribers.

I've lately gone on a lil bit of a green tear, and I really like the idea of printing my copies of books using preferred materials (recycled paper) and eliminating shipping (both from the printers overseas and in delivery to my home). The PDF costs are perfect for this, as from my estimates the cost difference between the PDF and the printed materials is how much it will cost me to print and bind the book at home, and I'll save the cost of shipping (or at least use the savings to recoup the costs of a printer)

I've borrowed this from Erik Mona in a previous thread on the topic. There are many.

The simple fact of the matter is that the more subscribers to the hard copy Pathfinder we have, the more we can afford to print, thus lowering the per-unit cost per book. Pathfinder is already underpriced relative to comparable products in the industry, so it's important that we keep the per-unit print cost as low as possible while still being able to deliver the high-quality product Pathfinder readers have come to appreciate and expect.

Yeah, I dug those up after my post. Unfortunately, Erik's comments don't address any of my concerns, which is fine, he needs to best address what works for the company. My concerns are mostly in obtaining a sustainable product (one that minimizes its environmental impact) and the PDF's are best solution for that, especially at the price-point Paizo has selected. Ultimately, you are going to lose me as a subscriber because it is environmentally more sound for me NOT to be one.

Paizo Customer Service,
This is the newest thread on this topic I could find so I'm resurrecting it in hopes that the idea I have might work for both Paizo and customers like Robert and myself. As I see it (going back and looking at the older threads) the only problems people have with the hard copy subscriptions are:
Shipping costs
Not environmentally friendly
They don't use the hard copy
They have to wait until their hard copy to ship to get their PDF

Granted these are not huge issues and most people have no problem with the subscription at all, but for those of use who would like to see another option I have this suggestion (hopefully this has not been brought up before):

Pathfinder PDF Subscription:
Customer pays full price for the PDF, gets the Pathfinder Advantage and a free hard copy. The PDF is available for download as soon as any of the hard copies start to ship, and the customer is charged the $13.99 then. The customer has two options for the hard copy; they can opt to have the hard copy sent as soon as possible or wait and ship all 6 in one shot, all they have to do is pay the shipping.

This will let users cut down on shipping costs (I would be able to save about $26 per adventure path), is little friendlier on the environment (less packing and shipping) and lets customers get their PDFs as soon as possible. As far as the people who don't use the hard copy still get receive one but at least they get a good deal on the shipping.

As far as Paizo you still get to order the same amount of hard copies and since the PDFs are the same price as a discounted hardcopy you wouldn’t be losing any income. Not to mention it probably would lessen the huge rush as each month's issue comes in and goes out.

Just a thought.

Thank You,
Evan Whitefield
