Greetings all…
This is my first post concerning a movie and I really want to bring it to your attention. If you’re avid gamers (D&D Role-playing) then I must recommend the Movie The Gamers: Dorkness Rising. I saw this movie last night thanks to a buddies recommendation and I thank him now over and over for his suggestion. Now please bare in mind I love spoof comedy and I hold movies like Army of Darkness, Princess Bride ,Three Amigo’s or even Space Balls in very high regards. So if you’re not a fan of those kinds of low budget comedies then this movie is not for you sadly. However, if you are then I totally recommend this film to you!
From the Bard who (like me) seems to always roll 1’s when ever it counts and rolls great when it doesn’t to the party having to get the Paladin to get distracted while the Party has to interrogate demons and evil henchmen this film really strikes a cord with me over all its content. Yes even the wizard passing the note to the DM at the end of the movie to cast Animate Dead on the chicken roasting over the camp fire that kills the Bard who is down to his last hit point I even found myself laughing over that too. I watched this movie with my son and I’m glad cause my wife didn’t seem to find much of it funny but he was laughing right along with me the whole time.
Additionally I noted on Wiki that Paizo in 2008 also featured this film during their convention and had a cast meet and greet and if I’m not mistaken a copy can be purchased through them as well. I found a copy on Netflix on the instant view and watched it there but I do plan on purchasing a copy for myself. I feel it is important to support the art you love.
Other movies related to this one: The Gamers (Part 1) and Gamers (Role Playing Mockumentry)
I have not seen either of these movies yet but I have them in queued up for later.
Thanks folks for reading my post and as always I appreciate your opinions on movies too so if you have something you think I might enjoy... Please post it here.

You have to see The Gamers. I have no knowledge of Dorkness Rising, so much may be redundant, but The Gamers is really hilarious.

While I´m at that topic, view Astropia as well.

Saw Gamers (Role Playing Mockumentry) last night. I must say I got a laugh out of a few parts but not as entertaining as Dorks Rising. I watched the first one with my son but quickly realized Gamers was not for kids. It has a lot of adult themes in it so watch it first then you can parent it out.
Ok onto the movie itself. There were some really bright spots in this movie especially with the situations the characters found themselves in that seemed crazy and yet provided a sense of realistic humor. I am a strong fan of realistic humor as I live it almost everyday either through friends or situations which might end up happening to me. Like running out of gas and getting picked up by a bus of nun’s who drop me off at my friends house party and of course they all see me coming and the nun’s waving goodbye. That kinda thing.. (laughs)
Exampling that in the movie: One of the guys happens to sing children songs for a living and the children songs are sung the same way about how wonderful said child is and how said child is loved by all the children and said child is fun to play with. Now add in the child named Richard (Well ok, the other name for Richard) and you can see how replacing said name with that really is funny all be it wrong. (laughs)
He was like, “Are you serious that is the kids name?” Yup.. cue music.
That level of realistic comedy really helped the movie stand out. I give the writers props for their use of it, great work.
The Con (This is a Big Con)
In my “experience” as a Gamer who is now 40 and been playing since I was 13 I can honestly say none of my buddies live at home, work crappy jobs and have no social lives outside gaming. All of them live pretty model lives, have families, love good music and enjoy hanging with their friends (playing D&D or any other activities). They are generally fun loving, adventurous and imaginative. (Go figure they love adventure games, nudge)
The characters in the movie were depicted however, exactly the opposite- as low paid, living at home, fairly simple minded guys that have no real life outside of gaming. I found it poor type casting and thought they could have done a better job of modeling these folks after more realistic Gamers rather then a group of guys that all suffered from a lack of social reality.
As a director/writer it is vital to remember your targeted audience. If you want Gamers to see it then type cast them in the movie as at least fairly typical guys (like in Dorks Rising) that funny crap happens too. If you want to make fun of Gamers then type cast them as you did and you will probably loss the only audience you’re going to attract.
So I considered this an average C movie while Dorks Rising was an excellent C movie.
(Standard: A -movie is a Blockbuster, B - a middle market film and C –independent, low budget film.)
I am a fan of low budget films and I support them.
Stefan I believe posted about the Movie Astropia. So I will look for that and let you know what my thoughts are. Hopefully it will be a blast and I enjoy it.
Until then change your own flat tires and avoid arriving at house parties with Nuns! Lata!

I basically agree with your review of Gamers: The Movie. It's been over a year since I saw it, and I only remember being entertained by the movie. I just don't remember any specific scenes so, yeah, C. Actually, I do remember Kelly LeBrock playing the mother of one of the characters, but for anybody who's seen Weird Science or The Woman in Red, she's kind of hard to forget.
Oh yeah, I was going to mention the unfortunate stereotype of gamers in the film. Yeah. It sucks, but I've actually met more than a dozen of those guys. It's depressing, but they're out there.
