Did I break the thread again?

That's what happens when you let baby hold the fine china.

Yes, this thread is broken. Sigh.

I think one thing that people often forget is that RPG's have a "G" at the end and that stands for game. I don't know about anyone else, but I think a game by definition needs to be fun.

Hehe, arguing is therefore a game because its so fun! >:D

Where is my armchair? I need my pipe and smoking jacket! The Jade show is on in five! Gather round children!

I'd listen to you. You should've done my high schools announcements.

Just when The Jade and I were going to make our fortune with the Executioner's Axiom, he has to ruin everything. Ah well, back to internal audit...

We'll always have Paris.

I'm afraid to ask. The city or the faux-celebrity?

We had one in the other. I'm usually a romantic and abstain from anything casual, but she slipped us a mickey and filmed the entire sad affair. I feel so used. She made Aubrey wear a sun dress. So hurtful.

Both, kind of... it was actually a plumbing curious gerbil that had been soaked in Rufinol. When you've got her kind of money, you can afford to go BBEG on your double dude gamer molestin'.

Oh, don't get me wrong, you were ravishing. But I might look better in some people's eyes if I was set aflame. Hey, it's a look, right? One's own volition is an important consideration during dress-up. Don't get Stockholm Syndrome on me, Aubrey. Stay angry!

Do it in old time radio voice! The Jade becomes The Jade +2 with that voice.

I remember when I first heard the term 'Stormwind'. It was simply thrown out there as a rebuttal, with no explanation, no reference, no link to its original source, even when it was asked for.

The best inference I could take from this was 'If you don't already know this term, you're not one of the in-crowd, and should remove yourself from this thread, as your input is worth less than nothing'.

Which may not have been the intent of the poster in question, but it certainly didn't give me any incentive to give them the benefit of the doubt.

As it happens, I actually agree with the basic content of Stormwind and Oberoni, but wish posters would ease up on using them as clubs to beat the opposition over the head.

I wish you could hear me doing it. Alas, internet forums without sound file sharing technology make it so hard convey a good audio satire. But trust me, my take was inspired. ;)

Well then that happens, they're really just, unawares. labeling themselves as snobs of a silly thing to be snobby about.

When people tried to do that stuff in grammar school, talk D&D jargon on the bus so other people might think we had this strange secret language that only smart, with it folks used, I'd always turn to the perplexed parties around us and explain what we were talking about. Treating outsiders to a particular hobby rudely does not make for good PR, and then the next thing you know, someone's burning your copy of Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan right along with Catcher in the Rye.

Scarab Sages

The idea that anyone would talk D&D in public, in order to appear 'smart and with-it' just baffles me.

Sovereign Court

Honestly, I try to avoid the rules forums precisely for these problems of meaningless debate.

Now and then however, I see something that so offends my mind that I fail my will save and post a reply, and I always regret the time wasted afterwards ...

The only thing that prissy little Holden's allegory has in my life is the fact that I certainly feel like that sometimes... but only when I'm tanking in WoW. Ye gods, sometimes DPS can be so stupid.

I am reminded of the blind men and an elephant. I wonder which blind man had the strongest position.

People are emotional. Logic, truth and validity are not going to change minds. I think the way to changing minds is to first understand someone else's point of view. And I do not mean simply agreeing they may have a valid point. I mean truly empathizing with their position.

Our perception is clouded by our past experiences. Until you understand how someone got where they are, you can not break down those walls.

Okay this will probably mark me as one of the uninitiated but what are the Stormwind and Oberoni fallacies? (btw, I am not very familiar with Greyhawk or a number of other settings so if these rely on such setting knowledge could someone explaining these provide sufficient backup info for it to make sense thanks.

Stormwind and Oberoni were members of the WotC message boards. In the eyes of some, you are actually MORE leet for NOT knowing who they are.
