Cool didn't know it would do that. Makes ED rolling much easier.

Yup, it'll look like this: 2d6.open(6)

Interesting twist you guys spun on bring in the new characters, GM note here: The kaer dwellers would be EXTREMELY suspicious of the new people, probably requesting an artisan test to prove you're not tainted. Especially since they're missing people, and you just happened to show up.

Go ahead and role-play this out...

When he thought he could do so unobserved, Solonchak leant close to Garrett and said:

"I wonder where they came from? Does it strike you as strange that the lumberjacks have disappeared and these people show up at the same time?"

He looks a little more closely at the newcomers looking for items which may display their crafting skills.

Perception test

1d10.open(10)=2

He will also use his Detect Weapon Talent (as much to just practice rolling as for any in-game reason!)

2d6.open(6)=7

"Absolutely," Garrett replies to Solochak in a low voice. "This territory isn't settled. The damn kaer just opened. If we weren't all adepts, then what we're doing out here might be considered suicide."

He then takes just a half step forward from his obsidianman companion and speaks clearly to the two windlings.

"Sorry to break up a chance to make new friends, Izen," he says, "but you know better. Safety first- and not just for ourselves."

He looks Fenswalder Twoflower right in the eyes as he explains. "My name is Garrett Suresight. I'm a Scout from Kaer Tsennan. We've been dispatched from the leaders of that community to find a group of our villagers who never returned after dark."

"We all know who we are, where we come from, and who we're looking for. I get that we're strangers to you, fair enough. But the people of this camp were strangers to you too. So before we go clasping hands and pickin' flowers, you know what comes first."

As Garrett says this, he's calmly reaching for an arrow, but he doesn't nock it quite yet.

"You need to show us that you're not horror touched. And you need to do it right now. Then we'll do likewise for you. If you have any business being out here, you know this is the way it has to be."

Txoro, I'm not trying to be a hard case, but I think every PC should know, whether the player is familiar with the setting or not, that this is something of a standard protocol, especially in this situation. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Garret: ABSOLUTELY! You're playing it dead on.

Solonchak looks for artisan implements on the windling, but can't seem to notice any tiny tools upon him, though he does note the dagger (sword for a windling) and a windling sized bow. Neither is hidden.

Which is why Izen made an astral sight test (And succeeded if the test is the standard test of 6

"Haven't you noticed my ever so lovely robe I've embroiderd every stich. If that doesn't convince you I could sew your name on your shirts so you don't forget who you are."

Fenswalder’s robe is decorated in wetland tribal style similar to T'skrang, composed of brilliant reds, greens and blues.

And how bout you arrow man?

And that's great, no argument here. But Solonchak and Garrett have no way of knowing that until they're told. I realize you're waiting on the GM, but we're just role-playing it out..

No thats cool. I'm enjoying it, just reminding GM if he missed the whole astral sight use thingy

Having the robe itself isn't proof, you could have embroidered it before corruption or you could have stolen it. Artisan tests prove you're not corrupt in the present, as a tainted namegiver tends to be very macabre or perverse.

That's why I offerd to sew for Garrett.

Fenswalder will also make a Astral Sense test.

Sytåz draws an arrow from his quiver.

"This fletching is my work. If you show us your talents I would be happy to make another for you. Otherwise, I may have a use for this one."

Male Windling Wizard first circle

Fenswalder pulls out needle, thread and cloth and quickly embroiders a flower.

embroidery 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11, 1d6 ⇒ 2 = 13

"Now lets see you fletch an arrow."

M T'skrang Archer

Placing his arrow back in his quiver, Sytåz walks over to a nearby tree. He carefully selects a small, straight branch. With a surprisingly deft and delicate touch, he carves the branch into a windling-sized shaft with a wooden arrow head. With feathers from his belt pouch he carefully adds fletching to the end. He finishes by engraving a word in T'skrang along the shaft.

Sytåz walks over to the windling and presents the arrow.

"I am Sytåz of Ishkarat. I name this arrow 'Trust' and present it as a gift to you in memory of our meeting. Do you need my companions to prove their skill or will you accept my oath as a namegiver?"

Fletching 1d12 ⇒ 5 and woodworking 1d12 ⇒ 3

M T'skrang Archer

That was not nearly as skilled as I would have liked. Ah well.

no I saw that you used astral sight, on the camp, you didn't use it on the other namegivers... And you didn't notice anything in astral space, except that it looks relatively uncorrupted. Garrett noticed more than you did, and let everyone know what he found, which is why I was letting it go.

I don't think astral sight turns off when it hits another namegiver, but that's your call, but it would be nice to have at least an answer. Don't want to get off on the wrong foot here so I'll drop out of the game. Thanks for the opportunity and good luck with the game. Take care of my favorite fantasy game system ;-)

Fletching 1d12 and woodworking 1d12

Looking at the awkward looking arrow, "I 'trust' that you would not willing travel with anyone with tainted blood."

Looking back to the arrow Fenswalder internaly debates with himself and then puts the arrow in his quiver.
"I accept your comradely on behalf of my friends (Hint, Fray) and offer ours to you."

Sorry to cut in on Fray, just knocking my post out for the day

Garrett briefly inspects Fenswalder's embroidered flower, and holds his breath when Sytåz offers a technically well put together arrow with a slightly curved shaft.

That's okay, he tries to reassure himself silently; the truth is seldom straight forward anyway. In any case, he's relieved when Fenswalder doesn't choose to challenge it.

Then with a look and a nod to Solonchak (signaling that they should go one at a time), Garrett tucks his own arrow back into his quiver and slings his bow.

"Just a sec," he grunts as he fishes his map-making kit out of his pack.

"I needed to do this anyway, before I forget too many details. I'm a map-maker. I do my crafting and have a practical use for it too." He glances up at Fenswalder's exquisitely embroidered robe, "Not that your-" Looking down hurriedly he shakes his head. "Never mind, spoke out of turn."

Finding a surface to draw on other than the blood stained stump, he quickly starts to sketch out a map from this point back to Kaer Tsennan.

Spoiler:

Map-making is d8+ d6 for me
1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (3) = 9

After a few moments he is able to show Fenswalder and members of his group a decent map of the immediate area. Afterwards he tucks the map in the waterproofed kit and puts it away.

With all eyes on him, Solonchak began to loosen the buckles on his shield with his teeth, until the bindings were loose enough for him to slip his good arm out.

Unslinging his pack, he took out the small case in which he carried his engraving tools, and looked around for a suitable piece of metal.

"Can I borrow your dagger?" he asked Garrett

Doesn't look like anyone is wearing metal, and Solonchak doesn't carry any weapons of his own. Assuming Garrett is happy to part with his blade momentarily...

With great effort and concentration, the young Obsidiman began to trace a small, delicate pattern on the knife blade. Practicing his craft was getting easier, but something like this was fine work at the best of times - much more complicated than doing it to a breastplate or axe head.

And to be doing it in these conditions, with his and Garrett's safety possibly dependent on it, made his mouth go dry.

With all the willpower he could muster, he concentrated on his task.

Artisan skill test:

He had nearly finished closing the loop on a simple leaf design, when the tool, slick in his sweaty hand, slid awkwardly over the blade.

Muttering an oath quietly, he held it up for inspection. "Not my best" he said ruefully.

Spoiler:
Ha, I've been getting really good rolls in another game, but so far I'm setting the bar on mediocrity here ;)

No problem at all on the dagger

"That may be so, but there's no sign of corruption either," Garrett points out.

Fray is almost done, so let's wait for him for this particular juncture.

M T'skrang Archer

Sytåz puts away his carving knife and looks around the forest.

"So where is your friend?"

Male Windling Wizard first circle

"He's a troll so you would think he would be easy to see."

"Glottal Cha Cliffchaser come out come ot wherever you are."

"Hey! I found some berries." Chewing sounds are heard before the footfalls. Glottal Cha comes through some brush.
"Anyone want some? I have enough to share."

Male Windling Wizard first circle

"Glottal meet our new friends, they've been sent to find out what happened to the loggers from this camp."

"I've told them we was exploring when we came across the camp and started looking around for the badies who caused all the blood loss."

"We should join them cause when we're finished we can vist their Kaer and take back proof to our Kaer that other poeple are still around and untainted."

Glottal Cha looks up and notices the newcomers.
"Hi. Want some berries?" Offering out his hand full of berries.

Throwing several in his mouth.
"You make sense Fenswalder. That's a good idea."
While talking, he moves himself to be in the middle of the newcomers and Fenswalder.

And...game on full speed ahead. Garrett you have tracks to follow, so if you guys accept the newcomers, or require the troll to take an artisan test, please proceed. If people are posting this weekend we can probably get through a lot, if not there's always next week.

"My name is Glottal Cha. I'm guessing you already met my buddy.
What are your names?"
Glottal Cha throws a couple of berries Fenswalder's way.

M T'skrang Archer

Sytåz accepts a handful of berries from Glottal.

"I am Sytåz, it is a pleasure to meet you Glottal."

He turns to Garrett.

"Let us find the loggers before it becomes much later, lead on."

"Good meeting you Sytåz.
...and it's Glottal Cha."
Glottal Cha looks at Fenswalder, "It's like you were coaching them before I showed up."
Looking back to Sytåz, "The squirt can call me 'Glottal' but only because our mum's are like sisters."
(Munches more berries.)

Solonchak eyes the newcomers warily, still slightly embarassed by his poor attempt at engraving the knife.

He decided to keep his own council for now, but as the group moves off he stays close to Garrett, occasionally glancing in the direction of the Troll and Windling.

Male Windling Wizard first circle

Fenswalder begins eating what is to him the basketball sized berry.

"Ya we should be going if we hurry we might be able to find some of your loggers alive."

Glottal Cha takes the rear and follows the rest of the party.

Making your way through the forest, your eyes fixated on the tracks, you don't see the body until you're almost on top of it. Before you lies a human, face down in the leaves, in what appears to be his own blood.
He is obviously quite dead.

[Tsennanites]

Spoiler:
You recognize this as Geleem. He leaves two young daughters orphaned, his wife having died during the winter.

"Is this one of the loggers?"

M T'skrang Archer

Sytåz kneels close to get a good look at the man. He looks up and nods sadly at Glottal.

"This is Geleem. We must find whoever did this."

just going to look? or are you going to touch the corpse?

M T'skrang Archer

I'm not a doctor. I don't think I'd touch it. I'm more concerned about finding the others.

Realising this is his chance to do something useful, Solonchak stoops beside the body and examines it.

Not sure the best skill but I'll try a couple of things

Perception check 1d10.open(10)=5

Physician check 2d6.open(6)=11

Solonchak

Spoiler:
You inspect the body, it appears the chest was opened surgically with a sharp instrument. The heart and lungs are missing, but the stomach is ripped open, possibly an incapacitating stab wound. it appears someone attempted to slit his throat but only sliced the left side of his neck. He has bruises and some small gashes on his face, slight infection is showing. You realize the amount of blood present is not enough for the entire body to have bled out.

are you a follower of Garlen Solonchak?

"Do you know how he died?"

Txoro of Barsaive wrote:

I thought Upandal would be more Solonchak's sort of thing, so no

Looking away in disgust, Solonchak covers his mouth and attempts not to gag. Glottal Cha's question brings his focus back, and he gestures at the body, saying 'someone tried to cut his throat. Whether that was what did for him, I'm not sure, but once whoever - or whatever - had killed him, they appear to have removed some of his organs for some reason.

He points out some of the other marks on the body but NOT the absence of blood. When they have a moment alone, he will tell Garrett.

Stretching a bit, but could I use my knowledge of weapons to try and figure if there was anything particular about the blade that was used to inflict the wounds?

Male Windling Wizard first circle

"Solonchak if you could raise the body a little bit there I might be able to tell us something of the creature that did this."

I'll use my horror lore in an attempt to identify what might have done this and why.

1d12 ⇒ 12
open = 1d12 ⇒ 6 total = 18

1d12
open = 1d12 total = 18

Spoiler:
While you don't think an actual horror did this deed, you feel this might have been related to some sort of horror construct or evil blood magic ritual. (Rather than blood magic used for good deeds which is commonly referred to as life magic.

Male Windling Wizard first circle

"Looks like you hunter fell victim to a blood magic ritual of some kind." "The good news is it doesn’t appear to be the work of a horror just some tainted magi."

GARRETT:

"We can't do anything for Geleem now. We can however try to save the others. This is no accident, and it's no wild animal...the time for justice is at hand."

Of course in your Journal, you can remember what was said differently.

"What should we do with Geleem?
I don't want to leave him here but we can't be carrying a body around with us. I would like to take him back home for a proper burial. Maybe we can wrap him in leaves so the wildlife doesn't damage the body even more. Then come get him when we find the others."

Izen Chromgully:

"You go on quickly, I will watch over the body of our dead friend"

There, two problems solved. What happened to Izen (game wise) and not holding up the game.

Garrett:
"Keep your eyes open Izen, you don't know what might be out here."

With those words, Garrett turns and leads the others again.

So we have 4 active players, and I'll puppet Garrett until he's done with Superstar! looks like he's going to move on from the exit polls...
