AutoPager rule for Paizo messageboards

Website Feedback

Just in case anyone is looking for them, here are the AutoPager settings for the messageboards:

<autopager>
<site><urlPattern>http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/*</ur lPattern>
<guid>7C285F22-45CF-6310-FC1A-6198-7BAD-058F</guid>
<margin>1</margin>
<owner>mattdevney</owner>
<urlIsRegex>true</urlIsRegex>
<quickLoad>true</quickLoad>
<contentXPath>//div[@class='post']</contentXPath>
<testLink>http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfi nder/pathfinderRPG/general/canYouDoANonTWFRogue</testLink>
<linkXPath>//a[(text()='next &gt;')]</linkXPath>
<desc>paizo messageboards rule</desc>
</site>
</autopager>

Just ctrl+c the above code and import from clipboard within AP and you're set.

Anyone wanting to know about AP can look here.

You'll need firefox, obviously.

You have a space in this line

<testLink>http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfi nder/pathfinderRPG/general/canYouDoANonTWFRogue</testLink>

right in the bolded part. Anyone who copies and pastes will want to fix that space methinks.

Also, I tried to add this in and I like to think I'm reasonably technically savvy but couldn't figure out how to do it (within the 5 minute attention span I gave it lol). If you could include a bit of instructions I'd appreciate it :)

Hmm... Don't know how that happened. It would still work though - the test link was just for me while I figured it out.

I'm assuming you have the 0.5.5.6 version, as that's what I use. I do not use lite.

After testing, its easier to save it in a file on your desktop and import from there, so:

Copy the text between the <autopager></autopager> tags (including those tags).

Open Notepad and paste, and save as whatever.

From the FF menu, select Tools > AutoPager > Manage Setting.

On the Sites tab, click the 'Import' button, then 'Import from File'.

Select the file you just created and click 'Open'.

AutoPager should tell you that 1 new site has been added.

And that's it!

Ok, I did it that way and the first time it failed - it said 0 sites added. I looked at the file and noticed there is another space in what you have above..

<autopager>
<site><urlPattern>http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/*</ur lPattern>

I removed that space, saved the file again, imported again, and that time it worked. Now to try this bad-boy out!

Works like a champ. Awesome!

Wha...?
Can someone start from the top regarding whatever this is?
A Firefox extension that does what?

Basically when you reach the end of the page on a thread you usually have to click the next button to go to the next page of threads. Auto page will pull up the following threads so you are viewing it on one page without having to click the next button. I wasn't aware that you had to customize the auto page function however, I assumed it did that on its own. Hope that helps, I just woke up and may not have described how it works very well.

HaHa! Just tried it, works great. Thank ya much!

That's pretty much it. It just keeps you from always having to look for the "next" link and clicking to the next page. It rewrites the page to show you successive pages all on one page so you just keep scrolling. Once you've used it for a day or two you'd appreciate it.

Off topic:

I wanted to compliment you on your Pathfinder site. Very nice. I think you and I share a mutual friend, Ken Loupe.

Hey, there's a Chrome extension, too! Maybe I'll try it out.

Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, Ken and I are friends. He plays in the bi-weekly game with me. His half-orc barbarian and my purely good but dumb and too trusting paladin are making great strides to improve race relations. I just hope this character of his lives longer than virtually every other character he's played in games I've been in... which is usually around one session lol

You're welcome :-)

You're welcome too!

Well, there are loads of pre-generated scripts for popular sites (google etc) but there are loads of sites where there aren't any (like paizo's messageboards).

In those cases, you have to write (or auto-discover plus fiddling) your own.

The worst part is getting the content link right.

Now I know it works for others besides me, I'll upload it to the AP site, so it can be downloaded automatically.

Could've done that before I suppose, but I knew there'd be issues (why those spaces crept in I have no idea - they are not in my script!)

Our boards insert spaces into long unbroken text strings to keep them from forcing horizontal scrolling on smaller monitors.

Any chance of an Avant compatable AP?

Well, you learn something new every day! Thanks for clearing that up Vic. Any chance of having a tag that disables that on particular lines so this doesn't happen when it needs to be all together?

People who buy a netbook with low resolution deserve all they get IMNSHO :-)

You'd have to ask the devs on the AP homepage. but seeing as they have only now expanded to Google Chrome I don't think your chances are good...

New Autopager rule (yes, I know it's long overdue)

<autopager>
<site><urlPattern>http://paizo.com/threads/*</urlPattern>
<guid>EAE0AFD2-A3BD-6B27-3EFB-F026-5A56-10E4</guid>
<margin>1</margin>
<owner>Paizo Messageboards</owner>
<enableJS>false</enableJS>
<quickLoad>true</quickLoad>
<contentXPath>//div[@id='auc_StandardPageTemplate_1_29_3_1_7_0_0_2_1_3_1_0_com_paizo_appserver_components_MessageboardThreadDisplay']/div/div</contentXPath>
<testLink>http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2qpk9&amp;page=1?Sean-K-Rey nolds-is-leaving-Paizo</testLink>
<linkXPath>//a[contains(text(),'next')]</linkXPath>
<desc>AutoPager rule for paizo.com</desc>
</site>
</autopager>

And it works in Chrome.

You are a saint!

And for product discussions:

<enableJS>false</enableJS>
<quickLoad>true</quickLoad>
<contentXPath>//div[@class='bordered-box messageboard-box' and div/@class='bb-content']</contentXPath>

From that last post, remove spaces from the testLink line and the space/semicolon from the closing testLink tag.

If anyone else like me was scratching their head trying to figure out how this works.

1. Get the extension and install it from the links above. Restart Firefox.
2. Highlight the code and Copy it.
3. You'll notice a new blue AP icon in your AddOn bar - click the down arrow next to it for the dropdown menu. Go to Import/Export > Import from Clipboard.
4. If it didn't work, it'll say import done with 0 new sites, 0 sites updated and 0 sites ignored. Check the code again to remove spaces or other weirdness.
5. Repeat step 3 until it works - it should say 1 new site.

Apologies for the spaces - I forgot that the messageboard adds those...

Also, I've uploaded the rules to the teesoft server, so they should be available from the search rules online option...
