Golarion + Book of the Righteous

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I've come to enjoy Golarion, the default setting for Pathfinder Chronicles, which feels to me like "Forgotten Realms done right" (No offense to FR fans). It has my favorite Dungeon Fantasy elements and tropes, and is overall a very believable, living setting. I even love the baseline selection of gods and cults in Golarion.

That being said, as my favorite "Dungeon Fantasy Pantheon" is the one from Green Ronin's Book of the Righteous, I'm always looking for ways to shove elements from it into other settings. And I think it would be very compatible with Golarion.

Especially since BotR already offers ideas and suggestions for adding elements from its pages to other settings. I think the "The Past Returns" option would work best, with the Gods of the Tree basically being an old, forgotten cult, which has recently been rediscovered and is coming back to the forefront, trying to integrate current gods into its mythos.

Any opinions on the matter?

Silver Crusade

I think that sounds like an excellent idea. Since Golaron has lots of history, you could place these gods from an earlier era, and now their temples are being rediscovered by pathfinders, and perhaps in a cave in Osirion or Katapesh, a shepherd boy could find a whole cave full of sealed clay jars, full of parchments written in an unknown script. There are lots of possibilities.

I have always thought the holy warrior was always the best depiction of a paladin of varied faiths and you?

Liberty's Edge

I think sounds pretty reasonable. There is a ton of "blank space" in Golarion's history to accommodate an entire pantheon many times over.

I am drawing a blank on the religious activities of the Azlant and if any have been mentioned in great detail at all. But the Gods of the Tree would make a good pantheon for Old Azlant, perhaps early Azlanti society.

Another thought is the Pantheon of the Tree is the religion of early Thassilon and is one of the reasons there was a division between Azlant and Tassilon. Of course, as the Runelords became corrupted, the cult could have fallen out of favor.

Finally, the faith could be elven in nature, derived from their homeworld of Sovyrian. In that situation it could have spread to nearby humans, who favored the faith for many years. Perhaps there are still strong enclaves of people worshiping the Gods of the Tree in the River Kingdoms, but is otherwise forgotten.

These are just off the top of my head. If I think of some more, I will let you know.
