Patrick Stewart to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth.

Fantastic - a great (and well-deserved) honor!

I also hear that Peter Jackson is getting the same treatment in New Zealand, for his contributions to film. :)

I wonder, though (and it may very well be the fault of the US Media), why we never hear about any doctors or scientists who receive this honor.

Someone who made groundbreaking strides in cancer research seems more worthy of the title than an actor (even if he is a darn good one).

Fair point. Two of the other recipients in the UK are race car drivers. That does strike me as a bit odd...

Whoo Hoo! Suck on that, Shatner. ;P

WOOT!!

Sovereign Court

*engages Pedantic mode* It would actually be Captain Sir Jean Luc Picard. Sir being title, Captain being his rank. *disengages Pedantic mode*

Also, tis awesome. You can see a complete list of the New Years Honours given out here, and there's plenty of normal people who've got some. Which is nice.

Huzzah, Sir Patrick!

O.o

Congratulations. I'm curious what if anything specifically he's being honored for, or if it's simply "recognition of deeds past and present".

EDIT: NVM, Uzzy's link answered it.

Sovereign Court

*Makes Pedantic Mode So* Further, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. If he were to be knighted by Queen Elizabeth, we'd need to call the Ghost Busters. Or a few clerics.*Disengages Pedantic Mode*

"Captain, are you okay?"

"...she slimed me..."

Thanks for both links. I am glad some non actors are recieving recognition despite our nice media leaving them off the list.

I think it's because the US, not being part of the Commonwealth, doesn't find knightings particularly newsworthy in and of themselves. Celebrity news, however, we are all about (for better or worse) (usually for worse).

In other words, it's not news that someone is being knighted, it's news that something is happening to a celebrity.

That's my take on it, anyway.

This sounds about right. The UK news spent as much time on the normal people as the celebrities.

Or it might be his is the only name any of us would actually recognize.

This story made me smile. I'm pleased to see it, thanks for the links :)
