I was wondering if a rogue milti classed with a spell caster get his sneak attack damage added to spells that are damaging in nature, such as burning hands or magic missile or even fire ball if the spells target is flat footed? Does he add sneak att. dam. to either touch, ranged touched or ranged damaging spells, all or none of these? I'm not sure and would love to get the definitive answer on this. Thanks a lot everyone, and happy holidays, Tony

It has to be a spell that requires an attack roll, such as scorching ray.

The Arcane Trickster gets a nifty 10th level capstone ability that lets them add sneak attack damage to spells that don't have attack rolls (fireball, etc.) if the targets are flat-footed. And the Arcane Trickster is an ideal PrC for the rogue/arcane caster, since it requires sneak attack and spells, and advances sneak attack and spells.
But the lowly ray of frost and acid splash are sneak attackable, which is just neat.

The rule is: If it does damage (hit point damage) and requires an attack roll (even touch attack), you can use it for sneak attack.
Unless pathfinder changed things you could sneak attack with abilities/spells that did ability damage as well (the sneak dice would become negative energy damage rather than further ability damage).
But you could not sneak attack with say a ray of enfeeblement as it gave a penalty rather than dealt damage.

That is an interesting point. I do remember that. For the sake of ease I just assume 3.5 rules apply to PF unless otherwise stated, even though I know its not RaW.
That leads to another question. Since undead can be sneak attacked now and negative energy heals them could you sneak attack or crit them for a some healing? This all assumes sneak attacks can still be turned into negative energy of course.
