Thanks to a Facebook campaign designed to stop Simon Cowell's latest karaoke act getting to #1 with a cover of a Miley Cyrus song, the 2009 UK Christmas #1 single is 'Killing in the Name of' by Rage Against the Machine, which beat its rival by 50,000 copies.
According to various websites, this is the first time that a single has gotten to #1 with no CD release and the first time a single has gotten to #1 with no specific re-released edition. It's been called the biggest chart upset ever (or at least Englebert Humperdink stopped the Beatles getting their eleventh #1 in a row, which was over forty years ago).
Of course, the X-Factor song will likely be #1 next week and thanks to the battle has sold almost 200,000 more copies than last year's X-Factor song, so Cowell's bank balance isn't hurting. He has, however, been mildly annoyed, and that is probably worth it by itself.

I gone easy on Simon Cowell because I didn't want to be inhospitable to British people, but.......this means you guys think he's a wanker too, right? Just trying to clarify things.
Oh yes, a total tosser.
My only sceptical doubt is that Rage are signed to Sony which Cowell has an interest in. Just my paranoid mind working overtime I'm sure. Will make a change not to have a Christmassy snowy cover on the #1.
I would have prefered Crass but nevermind.
Vent your spleen Heathanson, vent your spleen!
