How do you delete an alias?

Website Feedback

Any help? I've checked all the usual places (even read the board FAQ) and I can't do it... :-/

Pay me to sue Paizo to get rid of it.

I'm not sure you're thinking of the same alias as me :-)

Plus I imagine I couldn't afford you :-)

No, you couldn't but I like to give false hope around Christmas.

If you've posted at least once with the alias in question, then I don't know if there is a way.

If you've never posted with that alias, then hit "My Account" on the upper-right corner of the screen. Then on the left part of the screen, in the "Messageboard Aliases" box, you'll see your aliases listed. All those aliases with which you never posted should have a "Delete" link next to them.

Nope... those posts need to be connected to somebody, so the alias is undeletable.

That's what I figured. Oddly enough, though, after I wrote my first post with an alias and immediately deleted it, I still found no "Delete" link for that alias. Does this mean that deleted posts still reside in the database? Or is there some separate switch that gets set for an alias when you post your first message?

Answering this question isn't important, of course. This is just idle curiosity on my part.

Yep. They're not hooked up to threads anymore, but they're still hooked up to the author.

Can't they be hooked to another alias perhaps? Do some SQL jiggery-pokery?

Or can we change the order in which aliases appear in the drop-down 'Post As' list? I only have 4, and I'd like to not bother with one of them at all.

It's Eric Mona's fault as well!

So every stupid comment I made and then hastily deleted is still there, with my name on it. That's almost scary.

Hey, what about when we edit our posts? Does the database keep a history of every version of every post?

We generally avoid "rewriting messsageboard history."

That's conceivable. In fact, I think Gary had talked about wanting to do that at some point...

Nope—just the last submitted version.

Thanks for responding Vic. I understand any reluctance to change the DB. The words 'SQL' and 'jiggery-pokery' should not appear in the same sentence except to alarm Administrators who have given their users too many privs.

And give Gary a nudge to make aliases swappable - I imagine it's annoying to have a well-used alias right at the bottom of a long list... just as a ferinstance.

:-)
