FF 1-02

This thread is for out-of-character discussion of my play-by-post game set in Mwangi. View my profile for relevant information and links.

Please forgive my attempts to sound like a semi-savage with an INT of 20, it may get rough at times. :D

FF 1-02

Haha, no worries.

FF 1-02

I'm going to wait and let a few more people respond before having the dwarf speak.

Nice start Mike. I like the idea of a rescue mission. :)

I answered your question in the other thread. Would you rather that I answer stuff like that here? This is my first PbP campaign.

Thanks. Hope you guys have fun with this.

If I ask a quick question in the IC thread, you can assume it's safe to post a quick answer in the IC thread. The OOC thread is for longer or more in-depth out-of-character conversations (such as this one).

Mike would you rather Knowledge checks stay here or the IC thread?

Also, how do you consider Knowledge local to work?
I was thinking my Know(local) as referring to the Mwangi expanse...

Knowledge Checks:

On Silverback's kingdom 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
On Malgri and "her" Camp 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
On any ruins nearby the Camp 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
On any rumors? (I'm looking here, and it references rumors) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
if a history check would help any of the above, let me know...

Just being thorough :D

FF 1-02

Hmm--- I don't think it will get in the way to put knowledge checks and other checks in the IC thread, beneath spoilers. Since you've put these ones here I'll respond here.

Ku'ada's Knowledge:

  • Silverback's kingdom is located near Lake Ocota. It is very dangerous to go anywhere near the kingdom, especially Usaro, the city at its center.
  • Malgri is known to be trustworthy and friendly towards anyone who enters her camp. She even has a small group of guards who help her to keep the peace, though she has no official authority.
  • The camp itself is located in some ruins, but those ruins and those nearby have long-since been cleared by explorers.
  • While on your way to Nantambu, you heard from some travelers that the Aspis Consortium recently launched a major expedition in the direction of Usaro. This might have something to do with the murders of seventeen Aspis Consortium members by Silverback's forces three years ago...

My understanding is that your knowledge (local) is basically knowledge (Mwangi Expanse). It's knowledge of current and relatively recent people/places/information, and well-known history, etc.

Alright. Thanks!

FF 1-02

Sorry guys, had a coast-to-coast flight yesterday. Posting might be slightly slower for me over the next week but I'll try to keep things moving and I'll be back to my regular schedule after the 26th or so.

No probs Mike. With the holidays and stuff, I figure things will be pretty hit and miss until after the new year.

ditto.

Speaking of, I'll mostly be "AFK" the 25th until the 29th or 30th.

FF 1-02

All right, no problem.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Looking forward to starting up again! I'm hanging on the edge of my seat waiting for the apemen to fail their saves :)

I'm keeping hope alive, Ceer, but things don't seem to be looking promising...

Yeah. People might still be traveling or have family in town. I'll just keep refreshing!

Well, guys. I hate to say it, but I believe I'll go ahead and bow out of this game. Mike's last communication indicated he'd be back to his normal posting schedule by Dec. 26th. Yet, we haven't seen a single post for over a week now...both in-game or the OOC discussion thread. Almost always, that's a bad sign for the future reliability of a PbP game...even if the GM does eventually return.

Also, I've got some other things starting to come to the forefront in real-life for me. And it's probably best if I pare back some of my PbP gaming. I'll leave Rheed's profile up in the event Mike does return and finds a replacement player and prefers they continue with Rheed as a character. That way, they can clone his profile if they want to continue with him. If not, that's okay, too. I may re-use Rheed in a different game somewhere down the road.

Best of luck to everyone,
--Neil

Hi Neil,

I think you might be right about this game. If it does startup again, then we promise to rescue Tameka :)

I just came across the 3.5 Private Sanctuary podcasts. Looking forward to listening to your interview :)

Cool. But, I actually planned on making Tameka somewhat of an evil-aligned Pathfinder in service to Cheliax. As such, Rheed would become somewhat upon discovering her true nature, and then he'd come face-to-face with whether or not to join the Pathfinders and oppose her self-serving goals...or write off the Society as a whole.

Lovely. I hate the sound of my own voice. ;-)

FF 1-02

Thanks for being patient, folks. My holidays involved visits to two different families and lots of travel. I had thought that my posting would resume on the 26th because I was traveling to visit the less hectic family that day, but unfortunately that house didn't have reliable internet access, so I've been away from the computer. I am back home now and will be able to resume my daily posting.

Neil, you're welcome to continue on with us, but I understand if you're too busy. Either way, I'll be opening up another slot for this game because we haven't heard from Nightflier in a long time. If Neil won't be continuing, then that will leave two open slots. I think it makes the most sense for any new characters to jump in when the rest of you reach camp.

Sounds good Mike. I'm still in.

Are you going to put the IC thread on hold until you have 1 or 2 more characters?

FF 1-02
Ceer wrote:

I think I'm just going to go ahead and post the saving throws and the apes' turn, if only to "bump" the IC thread as well.

FF 1-02

We should continue with the battle and hopefully we can get one or two people to make characters by the time we're done with it, then they can join up at the camp. The fight should go smoothly for you all, considering the effectiveness of the sleep spell!

Hey guys. Mike, what exactly are the creation rules you settled on? Let me know and I will have one up soon.

That info, and more, can be found in the profile of my "Mike the GM" alias. Here is the character stuff for quick reference:

Starting Level: 2nd
Ability Score Generation: Purchase method (25 points)
Starting Wealth: 1,000 gp (spend no more than 500 gp on one item)

If you want to use something that's not in the Pathfinder core rulebook, please ask.

Please read the in-character thread so far. It isn't very long.

Hey CHP....What class were you thinking of making? Just curious.

Looking at a Mwangi Ranger.

FF 1-02

One more thing: Please take two traits from the general trait list. paizo.com/traits

Male The rules don't contain a specific for a mix of all races..... Drafter 20/Father 8

Alright. Have em up soon.

Sorry, got sidetracked. I will finish her today.

FF 1-02

Cool, thanks. Welcome aboard.

Do we roll for level 2 HP or take an average?

Grand Lodge

@ Nu-mara: I think Mike said to take 1/2 HP rounded up, but I'll let him give the final word.

@ Mike: I'm going to be out of town and out of contact starting on Wednesday the 13th until Thursday or Friday of the next week. Let me know if you are willing to dmpc Ku'ada or if I should just have him take a hike in the woods. I'll try to flesh out more of how he is supposed to act (something like what Rheed has).

After this trip I shouldn't have any more 'interruptions' for quite a while.

FF 1-02

@Nu'mara: Odin's answer is correct. Take 1/2 hp rounded up for your second level.

@Odin: No worries, and thanks for letting me know. I'll play Ku'ada for a week. I'll just go by what's on your character sheet/description and I won't have him do anything stupid!

Do you mean rounded up to the next even number?

FF 1-02
Nu'mara wrote:

d6 rounds up to 4, d8 rounds up to 5, d10 rounds up to 6, d12 rounds up to 7.

Got ya. Thanks.

Ready for you to look over Mike.

[EDIT]I forgot to pick a favored enemy. What are the ape-men considered? since the are a part of my backstory.

Nu'mara wrote:

Looks good. The ape-men count as their own sub-category of humanoids for purposes of being a favored enemy.

Welcome to the group. The rest of the party will be reaching Malgri's Camp soon. You'll want to think of a reason that you have gone there, recently. Considering its status as a "waypoint" for explorers and travelers in the jungle, that shouldn't be too hard.

I think I've got everything copied over now.

Looks good. Feel free to hop in to the IC thread at any time.

For those who don't know, check out the "call for players" thread (linked in my profile)- Calixymenthillian here was on the reserve list and has volunteered to take over Rheed for us.

Yep, hi guys!

Hopefully I can play Rheed somewhere near as he was intended, I really like the sound of this character.

Grand Lodge

Welcome Calix/Rheed!

FF 1-02

Hey Celestial Half-Porc: If you want to join in, you may do so now.

Recently, Nu'mara...:

Recently, Nu'mara found herself in Malgri's camp, a waypoint in the Mwangi jungle for travelers heading to and from Nantambu. However, a few days ago, a large band of ape-men in service of King Silverback came to the camp in search of a halfling who had supposedly stolen some priceless treasure from their king. They have not allowed anyone to leave the camp, and Nu'mara suspects that they have been killing or chasing off anyone who has tried to enter it. Nu'mara hates the ape-men, but she knows she can't fight this many without a great deal more help than can be had from the small number of guards at the camp. Earlier today, she saw her chance to escape...

Feel free to arrive at the current scene, or wait until another appropriate time.

Grand Lodge

Is it possible to do a non-lethal coup-de-grace to knock someone out without killing them?

FF 1-02

I'm not sure. I don't think so, but it seems like there ought to be some way to conveniently knock someone out. Anyone? I'm tempted to rule "yes" on this.

Mike - Just to let you know I'm working on my character. I'm almost certain it will be a female Mwangi(an?) barbarian. Quick question - do you get polyglot and common as 'free' languages?

I hadn't thought about the languages for native Mwangi characters yet, but it makes sense to have Common and Polyglot as automatic languages and it's not exactly something that will break the game.

Also, regarding nonlethal coup-de-graces, I'm going to say that yes, they are possible, but only with bludgeoning weapons.
