Redbrick Earthdawn... worth tracking down?

I recently rediscovered Earthdawn. I've managed to track down most of the 1st edition books on ebay. I started wrangling togther a few of the 2nd edition titles from Living Room Games and I just ordered the 3rd edition stuff put out through Mongoose.

That leaves one missing component...the classic stuff put out by Redbrick. I've only managed to track down a couple of the books online and I haven't decided whether its worth it to purchase them. Most seem like reprints of 1e books and the others seem like they might be re-released under the Mongoose umbrella. They are ungodly expensive as well. Especially since the couple I found are in England which doesn't help.

I'm a nutty completionist but the price of the redbrick classic books may finally undo my instincts. Are they worth it? Especially if you already have all the 1e books?

Thanks.

Well, we streamlined the 1st edition stuff with Classic and added a lot of little things (there was some new content, like Ardanyan's Revenge for example, but that was just released this month, updated to 3rd edition).

There really isn't much, content wise, that's in Classic that won't be reprinted in 3rd edtion (eventually, and albeit updated to 3rd). Mongoose is just our distributor--RedBrick is still writing and designing 3rd edition.

With that being said, I wouldn't get rid of *my* Classic stuff, but if I were just starting out and I wanted the most bang for my buck, I'd stick with 3rd (though you should pick up my novels, *nudge nudge*, found over at our website, www.earthdawn.com). ;)

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know if the older Earthdawn Journals are worth picking up? Not sure if they really add much to the game especially since I am going to be using 3rd edition.

I see both your novels are set in Cathay. I heard Redbrick may release a setting book for Cathay also. Definately will check it out. Thanks again.

None of the content from the Earthdawn Journals are making it to 3rd edition, so if you want that material, you should pick those up.

And yes, Cathay will be coming out next fall. It was written by me and two colleagues (the whole reason for the novels, actually, which are going to be a trilogy when completed). However, because I kept adding more and more content during the development process, it is now being split into two books: A Player's Guide and a Gamemaster's Guide (both will be released at the same time).

I'm keeping tabs on the Earthdawn 4e book but thats about it. Also Redbrick is really slow on prouducing product so years can past between the anouncment of a book and its release.

Also, Paul Tobin of Weta Workshop is doing the covers. ;)
