Grumble, grumble, grumble.
Ok, planning on travelling 250 miles and 4 hours to goto a convention that has been heavily promoting pfs scenarios. One of the prime time slots: 7pm to midnite on Friday, they only had one low level pfs scenario, yet they have at least 2 high level scenarios scheduled.
Being a beginning player, I dutifully signed up for the low level scenario and now 2 days out, I am informed that it is canceled due to low pre-reg numbers (the scenario not the convention).
To say I'm disappointed is a mild statement. I understand that if there are not enough players to sign up that (including walk ins) that the scenario would not make, but wouldn't you expect some walk-ins?

I'm driving up in a van loaded with Pathfinder fans, including two hardcore gamemasters. One way or another, we'll get your game on!
What level characters will you bring and which scenarios do you most want to play?

When I organised the Pathfinder schedule for GenConOz, there was a vocal request from players I knew who wanted opportunities to play their higher level characters. However, as we were promoting Pathfinder in Brisbane where no previous Pathfinder had been played, I opted to focus on low tier scenarios to encourage new players.
I think this was the right choice, as we ran four tables most sessions, for mostly new players. I would have hated to turn away any new player from an opportunity to experience Pathfinder.
Whenever your character reaches 4th level, you really should create a secondary character to play a) when a table of your preferred level isn't available; and b) to encourage new players to the game.
Players with high level character will always register for a high level game if available, but IMHO offering a range of tiered scenarios is a better long-term strategy for building the community, even if the high-tier games book out first.
Diehard players with 9th level characters haven't missed out on any of the fun and experience of Pathfinder. They have probably attended several conventions or many homeplayed games to reach that level. Reach out a hand, and give new players a chance to share that experience.
Edit: Good one Wulf! I was going to suggest someone might throw together an unscheduled session once your plight was known :-)

I'm bringing my first character a 2game/1st level Ranger, who I had planned on playing all weekend :)
I look forward to seeing your grou there, we will arrive in time for open gaming on Thursday night (11:45pm) to being playing.
So far I've only played #11, and #10, and scheduled out the entire weekend with the scheduled Tier 1-6s.
BTW, do most people bring along a miniture to represent themselves and to use maps?
Thanks
Robyn

There were an amazing number of PFS tables at NeonCon. Big props to all the GMs, impromptu and planned, who ran some awesome games.
In other news, Josh Frost is a madman and great GM. I learned quite a bit about encouraging roleplaying through kettle-stirring motions and a crazed look, though that was close enough to Josh's regular expression that I'm not sure it was acting.
Erik Mona's game was chock full of amazing imagery and he's very good at game pacing and improvisation. I'm shamelessly cribbing ideas from his game for my next campaign. If any of my soon-to-be-players are reading this, blame Erik for the good parts.
If you didn't get a chance to get to NeonCon, there's always next year. It was a really good time and I got to meet some really cool people, like that Ed Healy joker. I highly encourage you guys to start planning to attend next year. It's so very worth it. Doug's really put together something special here.

Yup, yup - I agree. I attended with four of my players from SoCal, all of us previous Living Greyhawk players. I'd been asking them about potentially playing PFS, but Neoncon was our first opportunity to do so. Even when there weren't low-level games running, they never failed to put together a game for us.
We all had a good time, and are planning to play regularly in PFS now. Thanks!

As another players who really got her initial PSS games in at Neon con, what a great group of GMs and organizers.
Had a blast and got to get in many (and I do mean many) Season 0 and Season 1 Scenario in over a mad 3 days and nights of gaming!!
And pathfinder has allowed me to build a truelly special character to play in the Society!

James!!
Great meeting you and your gaming group, you are blessed!!
Had a GREAT time gaming with you and the other groups of players in Vegas!!
If Piazocon is half as fun as this convention was, that will be an event to enjoy!

Paizocon is awesome. Well worth the trip.
I don't think it's fair to compare NeonCon to PaizoCon since they had different focuses. If you wanted a small con and the chance to hit up 2-3 game systems or learn a new system this was an amazing event. If you know you love Pathfinder you will find more Pathfinder sessions, more Paizo folks, better swag (yes, much better last year anyhow), plus the APG unveiling which if it compares to the Core book unveiling should be pretty fun.
What you probably won't find at Paizocon is a lot of other stuff. There were some other pick up games but no where near the variety we had here. I managed to snag a 2 hour intro session to Alpha Omega which was a hoot. I also saw a lot of board games and a table full of "on demand" RPGs that looked fun but I didn't get a chance to play. Vegas is also generally easier to get to.

Thanks! I have always preferred to GM and like to think of the Society as GMing for thousands. It's true, my regular expression is always that of madness.

and this is why my group brought this up in why i sould/ should not allow replays the fact that when you try to get new players in and not allowing people to replay senerios with NEW chariters this would happen.

What you propose would have changed nothing. People who signed up for PFS signed up with their higher-level characters. To allow replay would not have changed that. I believe that it is better for a table NOT to happen than to be forced to suffer either.
1- Follow a player who just meta-games the crap out of everything and who let's out "involuntary hints".
2- Have to face a puzzle when 3 players at the table say nothing because they "already played it".
I much prefer doing something else and have a higher quality of game at the table when I play or run something.
Here's a thing: if you really want to replay: offer to judge. That way you can play an adventure as often as you want! And it helps the society.
