The fungus has all but destroyed all the books, except one. On top of one of the bookshelves is a single tome, untouched by the fungus.

As the party examines the books, and begins to thumb through some of them, a massive puff of spores is released from the fungus all around you, filling the entire room.

Fortitude checks.

Fort 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Fort 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
.
If possible, Haunrar will cast detect magic.

Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

You can attempt to hold your breath to avoid breathing in the spores. Roll a d2 to do this.

1d2 ⇒ 1

That could work.

1d2 ⇒ 2

Deelin and Haunrar don't hold their breath at the right moment. Fortunately for Haunrar, he's able to shake off any negative effects. Deelin, however, isn't so lucky, as he begins coughing and wheezing (1 CON dmg).

Haunrar, which direction are you facing when using your spell.

Deelin, make four more Fort checks.

Thumpy, you'll need to get your hands on that book to evaluate it.

I'll back out of the room instead. The book isn't worth the risk.

Haunrar is looking at the book.

cough...cough...must...cough....get clean....cough....air, Deelin splutters as he stumbles back into the hallway.

Willy runs out of the room holding his breath.

Haunrar: You don't detect any magical auras.

Deelin: Those spores continue to wreak havoc on your body. Take 4 more CON damage over the next three rounds.

just to clarify. Deelin takes a total of 5 CON damage, so the 18 is also a fail?

Eventually Deelin stops spluttering but now has an unhealthy wheeze. Despite feeling desperately unwell and in need of bed rest he rouses himself and says We'd best keep searching...., the village isn't going to heal itself... as a coughing fit racks his body.

Yes, you take a total of 5 damage. No, the 18 wasn't a fail, hence 3 three more rounds of damage.

Concern etched on his broad face, Thumpy offers Deelin his water flask.

"Take it easy. We don't want you to be sick as well."

Althesia, still holding her breath, tries to take the untouched tome out of the spore-filled room.

Any relevant checks for that?

Make a climb check. Can't take a 10, here.

Haunrar offers Althesia a boost to reach the book.

Climb 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Lovely.

You grab the book without any harm to you.

Althesia runs out of the room to catch her breath, and examines the book.

The leather-bound book is written in Dwarven.

Thumpy:
When you read through the book, you find it is filled with hymns to the god Torag.

I'll be away on a four-day weekend, so I probably won't post again until Monday.

Thumpy peers over Althesia's shoulder.

"Hey, that's a dwarven book. It's full of prayers to Torag. Can I keep it? I know a dwarf who can find it a good home."

What are the PCs doing after leaving the fungus room?

Althesia hands the book to Thorin, a little disappointed to find out what it really was. She looks around, and seeing the shut door opposite the room she found the book, tries to open it.

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

"Careful" Willy stands next to Althesia, axe ready.

Haunrar is keeping watch down the hallway, facing north.

This door is locked shut.

Not wanting to slow the party down, Thumpy puts the book on the floor, intending to retrieve it later.

Deelin finally catches his breath and keeps watch to north in the cover of the open doorway to the library, his bow at the ready. I'm going to try and hang back a bit from battle. I'm still feeling quite poorly and anyway I'm a better archer than brawler, he says to the others in a hushed wheezing voice.

Any physical lock to open?

Althesia pushes at the door a few more times, just to be sure, before pulling out a small set of tools from her pack. Quietly, she gets to work.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Yes, there's a lock on the door.

You can't get the lock to unlock on your attempt.

Hmm, let's try that with a Take 20 Disable Device Check for a 29.

You unlock the door and the door opens out into the hallway.

This small chamber appears to be some sort of sitting room, complete with a single table and a pair of chairs, both in relatively good condition. Resting atop the table is a half-eaten crow next to a crude knife and a cracked mug.

"Careful, it locked da door from da inside." Willy whispers to Althesia.

"Looks like someone's been using this place." Althesia whispers back. She walks inside to take note of the surroundings.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Althesia:
You spot a thin trip rope on the floor of the doorway, that runs all the way to the ceiling, where it's attached to a net. The net is stretched across the ceiling and holds debris large enough to be lethal.

You were lucky not to trip over it.

Haunrar comes to the entrance and looks around as well before going back to keeping his eye on the hallway.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Althesia points out the length of rope on the floor. "Be careful, it's a trap!"

Althesia, can you try to set it off without getting caught in it. That also might get whatever put it there to show itself.

Althesia steps out of the room, then pushes the rope with her foot. Large rocks and pieces of stone fall like avalanche, causing damage to the wooden furniture and covering the floor.

The floor in the room is now difficult terrain.

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

"Now dey know we here."

Willy steps across the room and puts his ear to the door.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Willard:
You hear an occasional high-pitched word, spoken in a language you don't know, as well as what sounds like hurried scrambled activity.

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Willy smiles at the rest of the party. "I hear it. It in dere!"

Who's here?

Oi!
