Core Class / Prestige Class Conversion?

Conversions

Okay, I'm a little concerned. My party is very happy with the variety of "alternative" core classes (Hexblade, Warlock, etc.) and unlimited number of prestige classes available to them because I own nearly every WoftC 3.5 book published. The problem is I am very happy with the new rules found in Pathfinder RPG. My question is has anyone developed a standard system of conversion for core and prestige classes? I know there have been several case by case examples, but I'm curious if anyone has cracked the system and would be willing to help me out. Please...

-Great Idea: If no one has any solid system of conversion, maybe Paizo could come up with a guideline? Maybe a downloadable? Heck, I bet overwhelmed GMs like myself would even pay for such a system.

Thanks

paizo did put out a conversion document. It should be in your my downloads section

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Can I ask how well it works?

the download or conversion guide?

The download ya go to my downloads, top right had side up there. You should see it listed. Click personalize then when ready download.

The guide it's self walks you though steps in seeing what needs down and if it may or may not need stuff added. Many classes work fine once ya fix the BAB/HD but some will need work

Converting PRCs is relatively easy, you just need to make sure that some PRC abilities that function off base class mechanics, will still function off the updated pathfinder mechanics for said base classes.

Aside from that its simple: Update hit die to match BAB, leave any class or PRC with a D12 Hit die alone. Change the good saves of a PRC to a medium save progression (start at +1 instead of +2 and increase by 1 per 2 levels), leave bad saves as is. Finally strip out all repetitive class skills in the PRC, only have the PRC give class skills that the intended base class it was built for does not provide. This is due to pathfinder's simplified skill point system. It may seem like a pain in the butt, just trust me, the simplified math makes it all worth it.

But starting your conversion of the PRCs begins with the pathfinder conversion manual. Its free, so there's no reason not to download it.

Base classes are a little less difficult to convert, unless you're including the **Splat book** base classes like Hexblade, Samurai, Swashbuckler, Favored Soul, Shugenja, Spirit Shaman, Warlock, Warmage, Wujen, Ninja, Scout, and Spell Thief.

That's where you're gonna run into trouble, and Pathfinder will not be able to give you much if any support because those are not SRD classes, they are WOTC offical property, and thus we'll never see them officially converted to Pathfinder unless the rename them.

But if you want a brief summary of what works here's a list:
(Mind you this is my opinion)
Classes that need work:
Hexblade, Swashbuckler, Samurai (just trash complete Warrior's Samurai), Favored Soul, Shugenja, Spirit Shaman, Warmage, Beguiler, and Wu Jen.

Classes that should work with minor tweaking but are otherwise just fine:
Ninja, Scout, Spell Thief, Warlock, Duskblade, Knight, Dragon Shaman.

And I'm not even going to get into the extra base classes out there in various other D&D source books, like Archivist, ect.

My best advice, check the forums, see what's been worked on in the conversion thread. If you like something, ask if you can use it.

If you'd like to see a totally redone Samurai based on the Samurai class from Oriental Adventures, please feel free to check out my version of updating this class. It has its own thread here in this forum. And yes you can feel free to steal it and play test it, let me know how it works for you :)
(Yes that was a totally shameless plug and I'm not ashamed about it)

Good luck
You're in the same boat as a lot of us around here. Trying to improve/fix/rebuild/and update our favorite system.
