Alternate Sorcerer Ability

This may have been covered in another thread but I cannot find it.

In the Campaign Setting the Sorcerer class has the option to exchange their familiar with the ability to essentially push their magic.

How would this be handled with the Pathfinder RPG core rules? If covered in another thread please direct me to it.

Just require them to give up their first level ability. If they are the arcane bloodline this would be their arcane bond, if they are of the elemental bloodline their energy ray... et al.


The Arcane bloodline's 1st level power is arcane bond (which includes the familiar) so you could take that Arcane Bloodline and trade your familiar for the campaign setting.

By extension since the rest of the 1st level powers are theoretically equal it seems like you should be able to do this with any of them as Abraham suggests. Obviously much of that depends on your GM, but the case for the arcane bloodline is pretty solid.

If you take that variant, it helps you have a cleric in your party with the Community Domain who can remove the Fatigued condition X times per day. ;-)


The sorcerer option really appealed to me because it illustrates even more that the sorcerer's ability is inherent in their very being.
