Hello. I am trying to create a new trait and wanted some advice to keep it balanced. Basically, it will provide a bonus to Knowledge Arcana checks, but only when the character has access to a fairly sizable library. I am not sure if +2 or +3 would be appropriate. The player is much more interested in flavor than the bonus, but I want to keep it in line with the other traits.
Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I like the concept, lets see what can we do.
mmm I suppose your player is a wizard, yet the trait should give him Knowledge: Arcana as a class skill (this can be taken aby a cleric or sorcerer or anything else anyway)
mmm ok most traits only give a +1 trait bonus to the specific roll asked by the trait, but some give an extra benefit.
Here the reference is that he needs access to the library... so lets try this, example:
Arcane Researcher: You grew in the halls and bookshelves of arcane power, now you are not only familiar with researching methods, but feel more at home between books than among people. You earn a +1 trait bonus to Knowledge: Arcana and this becomes a class skill. Besides if you have access to a well documented arcane library (the GM decides what 'well documented' means in his game), you can chose to take 10 or take 20 on the knowledge roll, but it only takes half the normal time.

not finished yet!
Continuing on the idea:
When in an actual library you may use Knowledge[arcane] in place of another knowledge check, however it takes you 1d6x10 minutes to find the information you need.

Montalve is pretty spot on about the fact that most traits give a +1 bonus then a secondary effect.
So, what you COULD do, is give them a +1 bonus on knowledge arcana checks, then a secondary +1 bonus if they are in a library.
trait finished in my original post :P
sorry... duty called and it was priority :D
