Interesting choice of words there. It is a false dichotomy to say that the choice is between "Paizo and me" for psi systems. Further, as Paizo hasn't said anything regarding the contents of their system, nor have I made statements regarding exactly what I would do with such a system, I find it... Odd that you would choose to make that sort of a statement in the first place.

Further, while their experience and desire to make something work will aid in their creation of a good system, it does not prevent them from making mistakes, nor does it make them superior to a great many gaming enthusiasts out there... It just means they are getting paid for their work.

And, since I want them to continue to make money for their work, I am making suggestions, in good faith and to the best of my ability, regarding the system. One of the best traits of Paizo is that they actually listen to and care about the opinions of fans, going so far as to actually interact with them via their boards. Silence on a given issue, and leaving an issue to one's "faith in Paizo" doesn't imo aid Paizo, it actually deprives creators of well reasoned alternative perspectives.

I'm not quite sure it is a "false dichotomy," it seemed to me that the presentation of arguments of the less profitable (wrong) choice Paizo could make would the loss of backwards compatibility with psionics or the loss of point based system in psionics, either meaning the loss of an established fanbase. Additionally, other posts have established that if Paizo did present a Vancian system for it (not that I recall from you) that they would be performing an action analogous to turning into a dead end street.

I took in your post about Paizo dropping the ball (based on false assumptions or poor marketing strategies) and joined it with your other posts on the seemingly correct marketing strategy. It is this situation that my "Paizo or you" choice is presented, there are two opinions on how to proceed Paizo or a fan's. One choice is going to be better than the other (or they could be equal, but the posts so far seem to push that the fan's suggestion is the better one).

So, I think it is fair for me to say that if I have to choose between a fan's opinion (even if it is mine) and Paizo's that Paizo's is the one more likely to be better without crying out "false dichotomy." Should I say "interesting choice of words there" or describe how I find it "odd that you would make that sort of statement in the first place?" If Paizo produces something that follows your suggestions of what would be their best option, then I don't really have to choose who was making the more informed decision.

I run under no assumption that Paizo is infalliable, but experience does factor into my decision, and so does the fact they are actually doing this for their job. Couldn't that person over there be equal to them or superior in their field? Definitely. But if the person creates a shoddy system for free, that isn't a surprise. If I pay Paizo money and get a similar shoddy system, that would be a surprise. I expect more from people I'm giving my money to, so I expect them to be more diligent in avoiding mistakes than the person who just makes things in their spare time.

I certainly can't find any fault with suggestions, but I do have issues with suggestions with too much ego. Some of these have taken the dubious route of insulting Paizo (didn't see in your posts) for even considering a "wrong decision." That is a major example, but a few others have delivered their suggestions with an implication that if Paizo (for some reason) makes a different choice than the poster suggests, that Paizo are obviously wrong for not agreeing with the poster (without even trying to contemplate that the Paizo had considered more than they brought in their argument). And I will finish by saying again that I'm not directing this at any of your posts.

Gotcha. It just came right after one of my posts, so I suppose I made an assumption that it was directed at me. My apologies.

And I do in fact agree with some of your points in the above post; Paizo has a good track record, and there can be a fine line between fan suggestions and fans overstepping their bounds. And some fans are in fact attacking decisions that haven't even been made yet, and criticizing Paizo for looking at all their options, which is just plain silly.

The key to problem solving is to choose from all the options available, but to do that, you do have to actually look at all the options.
