I should probably hand in my Geek Card, but I never got into reading comic books. Now that I am contemplating the leap, what is some of the best stuff to pick up now. Keep in mind that I have not been reading forever, so anything where I will be lost due to not having read 20 years of backstory wouldn't be a good start for me. As a start, I have always enjoyed Batman, X-Men, and Conan in other mediums. Please help me start my new geek addiction.

Dark Horse's Conan the Cimmerian is an excellent title, as well as the sister books Solomon Kane and Kull. I also recommend Mike Grell's relaunch of The Warlord. Grell's got a gritty style that I really think you'll enjoy if you like Conan.
If you're looking for a super-hero title, Thor is a good one, except that it's never on time, so it's hard to keep track of the plot without re-reading issues. Justice Society of America is also consistently pretty good, as well as Captain America (although some may disagree on that last point).
Hope this helps!

Larry Lichman wrote:It does! Thanks for taking the time! I will go check out some of these right away.
Hope this helps!
I would also suggest checking out Guardians of the Galaxy, Kick Ass, and Gotham City Sirens. Some gooooood readin', there.
Also, if you want to get a few collections to understand the storyline, look no further than Star Wars: Legacy. Truly an amazing book.

When we game on Monday (hopefully) is there any chance you could bring your Star Wars: Legacy comic? I'd love to read it through and I always treat borrowed items very gently =:)TtO

I recommend the Mouse Guard books by David Peterson.
Great stories and artwork that you can find collected in two different hardcovers - "Mouse Guard: Fall 1152" and "Mouse Guard: Winter 1152".
I've found many comic stores carry the collected editins and if they don't, they should be able to order them.
Enjoy!

As a Hulk fan, I have to plug the Incredible Hulk issues #601 (which went on sale last month) and #602 (which just came out). Bruce Banner is no longer the Hulk and is running around causing trouble with his big brain and a brawny son. Lots of fun so far.
Note: That THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Not HULK, which is written by Jeph Loeb, features some sort of red-skinned aberration and should never be read by anybody.
