Well, it's been a while since I gamed except by PbP, but from a DM point of view, there is a certain amount of relief on at least some occasions that a face to face game cancels due to players being elsewhere that this means you get another week to prepare. But then again it means nothing but frustration on other occasions when you had everything 'just perfect and ready to go'...

Real life is a drag man.
As a DM I usually use the time to tweak the adventure I was going to run, or start work on the next adventure (even if it's just tweaking encounters for a pre-made one). If I'm a player and there's still some folk free we'll usually catch a movie, play some board games or head to the pub.

Very occasionally I'll catch up on my study.

In our case, our group has not met for four or five weeks, and I have been looking to it with great joy. The group will most likely meet again on a day where I must work. "Puppy Dog Sad Eyes"
On the bonus side, my house work is all done leaving me the remaining seven days of my holiday mostly free. Yeepie!
