Friedman sees the future of the USA as a Nuclear capable Terrorist state activly seeking the destablization of other Nations to ensure Favourable outcomes.
The only favourable outcome that can arise from a policy of nuclear Brigandage is resource plunder. This is an admission that the USA has used up its resource share, and its philosophies have no solutions.

The prospect of being knocked on the head with a wooden club and being dragged by the hair back to a cave where some hairy git shows you wall paintings of him naked while spearing an Ibex, then showing you the goat you will be milking because he expects you to make the ice cream must weigh heavily on your thoughts.

I find both equally unlikely because, well, people suck at predicting the future. You make a plan that seems nice and logical, then something unexpected happens that you weren't expecting and your whole prediction crumples like a house of cards. Maybe you seriously overestimate the stability of the Soviet Union, maybe some thing called the "internet" gets made, the point remains. People just can't account for all the variables.

I love it when they use this. 'Humane' is an excuse used to institutionalize murder by people who are criminals.
Alternatives? Better Leaders capable of acts of foresight, intellectual property, and genuinly beneficial solutions focused on stability rather than anarchy feeding of the corpse of a necessarily percieved Adversary.
