New setting: Motain. A ringworld.

Homebrew and House Rules

Now that I got my Pathfinder book, a Labor Day weekend coming up, and a couple players who have expressed an interest, I thought I'd come up with a new homebrew setting for a Pathfinder campaign.

To make this different, I decided to make this a ringworld setting. It's a bit different from Niven's ringworld, but the inhabitants haven't worked out all the details yet anyay.

A major difference from the PC's point of view is that day and night are a lot different than they are on a standard world. The arrangment I have has a day of 350 hours followed by a night of 350 hours. I am assuming that humans will need 8-10 hours of sleep every 30, so spellcasters will be recharging their spells after an honest night's sleep.

The display in the sky changes a bit. Besides the sun, there is a huge crescent that circles the earth opposite of the sun, and there is no moon. I've thought about various ways I could put a moon into this system, but I think the gravity is kooky enough as it is without the added complexity.

Unlike Niven's ringworld, in my setting the ringworld orbits the sun billions of miles away, like a ring-shaped planet or giant space station, which means they don't need thrusters to keep the system stable. The inhabitants see the sun rise and set as their part of the ring is exposed to or hidden from the sun.
