Bolt has a move of 25 !?!?!?!

Off-Topic Discussions

Yep, that is right world record breaking speedster Usain Bolt has a move of 25. Sad but true

Maths:

100m / 9.58 seconds = 10.438413361169102296450939457203 metres per second

10.438413361169102296450939457203 x 60 x 60 = 37578m (37.5 kph, fast!)

37378m = 123287.401 feet (online conversion)

123287.401 / 600 (to get feet in 6 seconds/1 round) = 205.479

Nearest 5' = 205 / 2 (Double move) = 125
Assuming the greatest sprinter the world has seen has the Run Feat 125 / 5 = 25 even if he hasn't it is only just over 30'

Well that must be a disappointment for Usain. ;-)

Compare a Human Mnk18/Clr1(travel domain)/Brb1 with Run and 10 x Fleet feat. Move = 120, using run equals something like over 215 kph VARROOOOM!!!

I think my maths are right, I am tired and just doing this for a laugh :-)

Let's make this real easy. Let's say the man runs 10 m/s. Maybe he's just practicing and easing off the gas a bit. 10m = 33 ft. A round is 6 seconds. So, running 5x his "normal" speed, he gets to run about 200 feet in 6 seconds. 200 feet divided by 5 = 40.

Bolt has a Move of 40, by my calc.

You made a slight mistake there. You divided for a double move and for a run. You only needed to do the run. Also, there is a much simpler way to do this math.

If his speed is 10.4 meters per second, then he is traveling 62.4 meters per round. That's 204.7 feet per round; round up to 205 feet. If you assume he's running full-out, you divide by 5 (not by 2, then by 5). This gives us a move of 41. (We can safely discount the spare 1 foot of move as a real world anomaly, irrelevant to the rules question involved.) This means that our real-world "fastest man alive" has:

a) 3 levels of monk
b) 1 level of barbarian
c) the Fleet feat (twice)
d) some combination thereof

This is actually pretty reasonable, all things considered. I would posit that (c) is our most likely option, as an Olympic-class runner is likely to be an NPC and not a PC adventurer. (Extra Geeky Part: So, he's probably something like a 3rd-level Expert with Run, Fleet, and Fleet as his three available feats.)

Yes, a high-level human cleric/monk/barbarian with a bunch of feats to spare could be much faster. Your calculation here was off a bit too. ;) Start off as barbarian 1, reform and go lawful; take 18 levels of monk and 1 of cleric (of Desna, sure, why not?). This gives you +80 feet of movement (total: 110). You have 11 feats available; take Fleet 10 times (+50 feet, total: 160) and Run. Your total potential movement is now 800 feet per round; this gives you a running speed of roughly 91 miles per hour (or 146 kilometers per hour).

Congratulations: you have now endured 20 levels of hardship to play Speedy Gonzalez. XD

The Sage investigated a certain way to get up to 2,238 miles per hour
(The link is dead though so I can't show it to you...)
That was the world record on the WotC boards.

Ha yeah the double move and run, mutually exclusive (my 4E-isms coming out!)

Still move of 40 is pretty crap, I wonder if he can keep it up for 2 minutes (CON 20 in rounds?)

And I forgot the Monk speed at 18th was a bonus (I just used 60 as a base instead of 30). As I said, tired ;-)

Well I reckon Usain will be making a lot of money off his 20 levels of pain :p Anyway there is go to be some use in running around the battlefield, whacking everyone with one stunning fist per round!

Whoa, now that's Speedy G!

Scarab Sages

My fastest char that I made had a speed of 160'. (Theory)
human Barbarian 1/Cleric 1/Totem Warrior 1/Scout 1/Dex 2/Incarnate 1/Fighter 1/Rogue 4/Blade Dancer 7

I had a 8th level Halfling Rogue 4/Fighter 4 with a 40' but then he got eaten by a giant swamp serpent...

Now that's bolting.

Also remember that "Aragorn is only 6th level". A 20th level character being able to run at 215kph is no big deal, because at 20th level your PCs are nigh unto gods. And with those domain/feat choices, he's probably the Patron Saint of Running Really Fast. :D

What Jagyr says. I'm not concerned about a 20th-level character doing superhuman stuff.

No, wait, I am. At 20th, mere superhuman is weak. They're supposed to have passed superhuman somewhere around level 10.

They can make someone die with a mere word. They can cause acid to rain over a whole army. They can call the gods and make them change reality.

Running as fast as a nice modern sports car? Wake me if it gets interesting.

I doubt that Bolt could maintain his speed for more than a few rounds, while PCs can just keep on moving.

Well,

Don't forget that in the world of D&D 1 mile = 6,000 ft. exactly.

So, there's some kind of conversion you need to do... I just don't know what it is - My degree was in History.

Wait, what?

The Flash would kick your ass.

The Flash would kick your ass.

If you have super speed, you must also have super strength. Strength is essentially how much force your body can exert.

Force = mass times velocity

If velocity is off the charts, force must also be (assuming mass isn't minuscule, of course). If your arms and legs can move ridiculously fast, they must also be able to exert ridiculous amounts of force.

In other words, KaeYoss will be sorry he insulted him.
