So, it's not long until the 40th Anniversary of Mankind stepping foot on another celestial body. Which, if you ask me, is a rather impressive feat.
Seems rather appropriate therefore, that NASA have released photos of the landing sites, taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, currently orbiting the moon, which show quite clearly the landing sites, the landers themselves, and in the case of Apollo 14, various footprints around the landing site. These are very impressive images, and can be found here.
I figured I'd share them with you. Anyone here old enough to remember the landings themselves?

I'm told I watched the whole thing with my dad on TV, but as I was only three, I don't remember. I have a fuzzy recollection of watching later landings, though.

I'm old enough, though how many of the memories are "true" versus redone from watching the History Channel replays is debatable. My Mom tells me I fell asleep during the first landing, but giggled a lot watching the funny men bounce around in their white suits :)
My strongest memories are:
- the radio silence during Apollo 13's re-entry, (The scene from the movie gave me chills as that old memory clicked into place, along with my Dad's face as he sat there, 'listening' to nothing on the radio. ::brrrr::), when I was six,
- and the gut-wrenching horror of the Challenger's last launch. I tried to watch every launch then, and raced from class to get to the TV to watch her take off.

Counts down to see how long before some dimwit posts about how the whole thing was a fake.
It WAS fake!! It was filmed in a sound studio in AREA 51. The information recovered from the ship that crashed at Roswell gave us enough information to fool the astronomers and geologists of the day.
I'm like tolly serious, maaaaan. It was all part of the government's plan. Make us trust them at spending ungodly sums o' money on crazy-@$$ projects 'n stuff.
Dude, I'm tellin' ya...
You know what ELSE people just don't understand? Pro wrestling is tolly real, dude. You can't fake that stuff, maaaaan.
Kill your TV. There's embedded subliminal messages, I'm tellin' ya...
