Help finding a specific spell

3.5/d20/OGL

Okay, I've looked through my collection twice now (and my collection is quite extensive). I'm hoping someone else has seen this spell, as I'm at a loss.

I believe the spell is "Forcestaff" and I think it's a Wizard/Sorcerer evocation or conjuration spell somewhere between 4th and 6th level. Has anyone else seen this spell (and please note source, as I cannot find it). I'd swear it's a WotC spell, but I just can't find it right now, nor can I find it on their 3.5 complete spell list, making this even MORE fun. I hope I'm just not imagining that I've read that spell (as well as remembering artwork where a wizard is standing with the staff forming in front of him horizontally).

Thanks to all in advance for your efforts,

/d

I have way too many spells memorized but that one doesn't ring any bells. If you give me a hint about what it does it may help my memory.

It literally creates a staff of force (thus the reason I can't recall conjuration or evocation, it fits both) to use as a melee weapon, using it as a touch attack I think, allowing the wizard to travel less... encumbered. I believe the material component was a small silver staff, but I could be wrong.

Well from a quick look at the Spell Index for the word Force I can't find anything that seems to resemble your spell so either it's not actually a force spell or more likely it's a third party spell.

I always appreciated the Spell Index, though it shows how ridiculous things got. There are spells not in the Spell Index as that only includes PHB and SpC spells. Plus newer books aren't included...hmmmm...

Google is giving me Warcraft 3 spells, so maybe the Warcraft 3 D20 role-playing game?

I recall the spell in question, but I would imagine that it is a 2nd Edition spell only. Faerûn's Khelben Blackstaff has a similar spell, so perhaps it's in one of the Harper supplements.

Do you have Unapproachable East in your collection? On page 49 there's a spell called decastave which fits your criteria of:

  • conjuring a staff of force
  • quarterstaff damage on a touch attack
  • artwork depicting a wizard holding a horizontal staff

From what I remember Unapproachable East was released between 3.0 and 3.5 limbo, which was probably why it wasn't on the official 3.5 Spell Index. The spell database on this one site is a lot better and lists 3.0 spells as well, which was how I narrowed it down.

(Just don't let Wizards know about it 'cause they'll send Rich Baker and his 4e minions armed with firecubes and cubes of cold to take it down) ;)

I DO have Unapproachable east... checking... checking...

Well, shoot my memory all to the Nine Hells. That is EXACTLY the spell I was looking for. I could have sworn it was "Forcestaff" and higher level than 2nd, but it is the exact artwork and spell that I was looking for. Thanks a bunch Iron Host.
