We've just uploaded the Quick-Start rules from the book as a free PDF download on our HackMaster Basic web page. (These are not the full character creation rules, but an abbreviated and modified version to help you roll up a character faster.)
There are also several other free PDF downloads on that page, including character sheets and other previews.

Always good to have some more free swag floating around, I says. Would these characters rolled up be usable for any standard d20 adventure (let's say, for example, the D0 Hollow's Last Hope, et. al)?

HackMaster Basic isn't a d20 system. Completely different...

Wow, that was actually very intriguing. I was under the impression that Hackmaster Basic was going to be simply Basic D&D in the same sense that Hackmaster was AD&D..
I'll have to see about the gang getting a copy or three.
K&Co no longer has a license to use anything D&D/AD&D, therefore they had to create their own game system. Completely different but VERY, VERY Good.

I suggest checking out the free previews for an overview. :)
Speaking of which, I've added a new Index PDF to the list of downloads on the HackMaster Basic page, for those who want it.

Also, the HackMaster Association runs "Learn to Hack" (Character Creation and basic game play) events at all Conventions that members are at, Origins & GenCon plus whatever regional Conventions where there are HMA Events. In the Memphis Area(For me) it is ShadwoCon(Jan), MidSouthCon(Mar) and GameCon Memphis(Sep). Drop in at a table and check it out! Come over to the K&Co boards and find out if there is a GM near you and ask for a Demo!

Bought it am reading through it did own the hackmaster phb but never got very far, still the KODT issues are great!
Out of curiosity is anyone interested if I ran a game of this?
I'll post up in gamer connections when I'm ready but I thought I'd see if there's any interest thats what stopped me going any further with Hackmaster but back then I didn't even know about Paizo and pbms!

By the way, we've just added a new FREE adventure PDF for HackMaster Basic (White Palette, Ivory Horns) to our website.
White Palette, Ivory Horns is a classic adventure in the old-school tradition, White Palette, Ivory Horns takes place in and around the village of Vew, on the edge of the untamed Legasa Peaks, and features a variety of combats and challenges designed for three to five 1st level characters.

Much obliged, i actually ran a few games set somewhere to the North west of P'Bapar (3.0 Kingdoms of Kalamar) as a result of reading a Kalamar story in KODT dealing with Bandran any chance those stories might be reprinted?

No plans for such a reprint now, but the upcoming "Frandor's Keep" adventure module is set in P'Bapar.

Cool- now there's something ready for complete quickie char generation and play thru... and it's free; much thanks :)
BTW, snagged me a hardcopy of Hackmaster Basic- plenty of fun to read (Don't think I've ever ran into a published RPG where one whole chapter is devoted to just and only dice (including all that mumbo-jumbo stuff about rubbing dice against game designer autographs, heh) and enough crunch in the basic game alone to fufil yer daily fiber requirement three times over. ;)

Wouldn't mind trying out a pbp game as a player- still wrapping my mindset around some of the rules crunch of Hackmaster Basic (part of my problem is looking at and comparing things from a relatively 3.5 view) ;)
