I was a trainee teacher, and as of last week I am a teacher, a proper one with board markers and detention slips and everything.
Shortly after Christmas I used Paizo's goblin pictures as a stimulus to writing and wrote a few pieces of example writing which were mostly true to the goblins of Burnt Offerings and Classic Monsters Revisited.
The students most excited by all of this were some 12 year old boys who read lots of books with swords and demons and fire and dragons and blood who misspell 'particular' but can spell 'mephistophelean' and 'crepuscular' backwards.
The class has now been making board games so that they can learn about marketing and writing persuasively for a specific audience.
These 12 year old boys think WoW is too limiting and have moved on to Everquest. They are now making a boardgame: "Like Dungeons and Dragons" and scoured the internet for my goblin pictures. Then they went on that site (The Paizo Blog) and stole many, many pictures for their new board game which will be much more fun than anyone elses game because it has castles and dungeons and orcs and explosions and magic and swords and heroes.
And now they have begun poking around the rest of the site, and for all I know they will read this, and I am beginning to feel like an evil, subtle genius who shows students around his hobby when he is supposed to be teaching them about the power of language.
So... Paizo, I hope you don't mind, but I used some of your pictures (which I am, in any case, legally entitled to do as a teacher - as long as pictures count as excerpts) and now a board game crowded with sticky tape and homemade paper-minis is awash with your art.
I'm not sorry, but I hope you don't mind.

Pretty sure you're in the clear until your students start selling it. Then you'll be an accessory to copyright infringement and Jason Buhlman (CR 25) will show up at your house armed. (25% Chance of Eric Mona) =)
Which is not necessarily a bad thing. ;)
Congratulations on corrupting the minds of a future generation of Role Players. Thumbs up!

Heck, if it's good enough, Jason & Eric may just market it for the kids...

You know, I saw the title and thought it would finish with something like "...PFRPG blows big baby chunks. I won't ever buy anything from you again."
This is, of course, so much better.
Ditto. My long inexorable sigh is now repressed with nowhere to go! I can't wait to have kids of my own to introduce to the game someday.

Will he be armed with Eric Mona? Is that a two-handed weapon?
I thought this was going to be a complaint thread too, which was really funny to me because when I clicked I was thinking, "Anything that begins {I hope you're not offended...} is sure to offend..." Like how when someone asks you if you're ticklish, it doesn't matter what you say; they're about to touch you.

That's awesome GE! When they are done with the board game, I'd love to see pictures or, even better, a pdf of the board and pieces and rules so I can play it myself. The real question, though, is when are you going to start running an after school tabletop session to pull them away from EverQuest and fully indoctrinate them in the cult of Pathfinder?

I'll see what I can do.
Unfortunately, that was the school where I was training and we finish before the end of term - they're finishing the games with another teacher.
I should have considered my title more carefully.

Wickedly creative ideas for teaching kids the power of language
Any hints as to where in the world you are teaching? I also teach Language Arts (mostly to high school freshmen), and if I don't march in step with the pacing guide I have been given, I get strung up by my toes. Very frustrating...

Erik Mona is a light weapon for me actually... and he does have a range increment of 10 feet... the flailing arms make him less aerodynamic.
Crit range of x3 though.. he's a biter!
Jason
lol. That's awesome. As for the boardgame, that's great! And people thing kids won't be interested in games as "complicated" as 3rd edition and Pathfinder. Heck, I got my start playing 2nd edition in middle school.

It sounds as though your behavior is neatly in line with our Community Use Policy. You might want to check that out, and note that it gives you access to some other material you can use.

I don't know... When I met Eric, he was always happy... Josh on the other hand...Never smiled... not once..I think he would be a better bitter ballistic projectile, and more aerodynamic because of the lack of hair. ;-)

Waste of a feat considering his low DEX...

Would the flailing appendages result in a thrown weapon with area of effect capabilities? Or perhaps more like a thrown weapon with reach ? ;)

Unless things have changed since 3.5 a bite attack counts as all three types for bypassing DR

Nah.. its more like 1 point of splash bludgeoning damage.

Excellent. Now you can wield Erik two-handed for maximum damage. :P
Edit: [enters paranoid mode] Power Attack with a Light Weapon?!?!? quick! let's bash the PRPG for this change! [/jokemode]

If GeraintElberion's students do happen to read this thread, there's a chance they could be terribly confused by our reactions.
Well done!
They might also get the jokes (they seem intelligent enough to like Pathfinder, after all) and incorporate an Erik wielding Jason in their game as the BBEG.

ROFLMAO - the flailing arms bit got me.
Way to go, GE. Maybe they'll self-publish the rules so we can all give it a go?

It's been 24 hrs. and my fiancee took the day off to spend together instead of me spending it here alone. We'll see how I do a) when the cabin fever sets in and b) when unemployment kicks in and I notice the difference in available funds. But thanks for the concern. Hopefully I'll be back at work soon and can avoid all the crap that comes with being unemployed.

Teacher Talk.
The UK. I am a Teacher of English.
how old are freshmen?
What's Language Arts (sounds cool)?
pacing guide??
The government has actually loosened up a little in the last few years about trying to remotely teach each lesson. They got rid of Year 9 (13-14) SATs so we don't have to worry about teaching specific texts or to any targets until our students begin GCSE (qualifications they get when they're 16 - spend two years usually on those).
There are targets and levels mapped out that students are supposed to reach (mostly internally assessed) but how they get there is up to the teacher.
