Free RPG Day - For those that went

Scarab Sages

I was running my own D&D game at a game shop that didn’t participate in Free RPG Day. (They are mostly a board / card game shop.) The closest game shop participating was over 1.5hr drive away. Bummed me out. But our session was really fun and I got 2 new players. :]

My questions for y'all:
-What was given away?
-What did you get?
-How did you like it?
-Is anyone else selling their product like paizo is doing? (If yes, got a link for that?)

Sorry to hear about not having a closer game shop available for freerpgday. As for answering stuff...

For the two locales I went to (one of them never participated before this 2009), they had stuff out there with a few things different between them, but I had a chance to briefly glance over about 75% to 85% of the products offered (due to not being taken out or already taken, I cannot say). Myself, I got stuff from Paizo, Goodman, WhiteWolf, Herolabs, Mongoose (Dragon Warriors only, saw the Corporation and Paranoia but didn't get those), Trolllords, FFG, and WOTC. They were all good- interestingly enough both Dragon Warriors and the Castle and Crusades samplers allowed for making your own characters in their respective quickstarts- all others used pregens (if they were adventures).

Now for the good stuff; Free- you know you want it- I know I do. So here's some stuff out there that are freerpg related...

Rite publishing's unoffical freerpgdaystuff

herobane quickstart

rogue trader quickstart

amethyst(sp?) 4e adventure, with pregens- which weren't included in the print offerings, possibly due to limited print space. Goodman never has pdf dl's of the freerpg offerings otherwise to my knowledge.

their 2008 offering, but looked pretty similar- no doubt 2009 will be up soon

Geist dl will be available next week

And as for WOTC- I'm almost postive they do make a pdf available sometime later on.

Hope this helps

It would be remiss of me to mention that by "their", I meant Exile Game Studios- producers of the Hollow World Expedition rpg.

Of the remaining retailers left, I know not if Mongoose even has any freerpgday dl's of their offerings and as for the dice... welp, you won't be finding those as a downloadable pdf anytime soon. ;)

And the Rite publishing stuff is unofficial and has no connection to the actual freerpgday swag, but it is in the same spirit and free is free.

And lest I forget, the folks over at Troll Lords Games has a Castle and Crusades quickstart for dl, which can be found here

While it happens to be an earlier quickstart (possibly from an earlier freerpgday swag), the rules are similar enough to the quickstart (only real difference is that they added in the half-elf as a playable race in the 2009 freerpgday primer and the included sample adventure is different as well) given this year that you can get an idea of what is offered by them.

I wonder if Q-workshop will make a PDF version of their dice set ;-)

I guess they could make a pdf advertisement of their dice set- but an actual dice that one can use off of a pdf? Another thing entirely- but I have been wrong before. ;)

As for new freerpgday stuff, rpgdrivethru got two more in...

Their Geist quickstart, which is among the longest quickstart adventure I've seen out of the entire 2009 freerpgday offerings

The Dragon Warriors quickstart, which along with C&C's 2009 quickstart, you can make your own characters (fighter types only though)

Another unofficial free pdf offering, via Alea publishing, that wasn't part of the official freerpgday stuff, but is a close cousin in spirit
