Hey, just looking to see if there are any other interested gamers out there in the Madison/Huntsville AL region. My wife and I live in Madison and play along with my brother and his g/f. We KIND of have enough to play (we do anyway) but we always thought it would be kind of cool to get to know and possibly game with others.
So anyone out there or did Alabama run out anyone who roleplays >_>
EDIT - I should add we're playing PFRPG Beta as well as 3.5 edition.

Heya. I went to high school in Guntersville and college in Huntsville. I played a little in hs but really can't remember meeting any roleplayers in college...the best gaming store was wargame-focused (which I was into at the time) but did have some RPG stuff. So, point is, I feel for you. You'd think with all of the tech types there'd be more of an RPG community. Simulationists I guess.
Have you tried meetup.com? I don't know if there's one in your area but maybe you could start one and publicize it at the local gaming stores (there are some, right?) Ours here in Portland is active and I met both of my groups through that site.
Good luck to you!

The two stores we have that can be CONSIDERED gaming is Bookmark (small, out of the way, and not many people ever there but there IS a bulletin board we have used at times to try) and a comic shop called The Deep (which gets more business but it's a lot of WoW players since they have comps set up for it as well as magic the gathering tournaments and board games. Can't remember EVER seeing a D&D game there).
.... I think Austin Texas spoiled me. I miss you Dragon's Lair!!!

Hi! I lived in the area for several years now and can probably point you in the right direction...
For starters, I'd recommend popping by the local game shops. You can try posting a "looking for game" notice, but honestly, I haven't heard that tactic works well. It is better just to meet people at the shops and ask about games looking for players. Haven Comics on Slaughter Rd. in Madison is probably the closest game-related shop to you. It is a small place, but most of the folks are friendly. Stopping by on a Wednesday or Saturday is probably your best bet for meeting people. I have to warn you that Haven is *very* hidden, so even if you have the address, keep the phone number handy to call for directions. Other stores in the area include HobbyTown USA near Madison Square Mall, The DeeP Collectibles off Memorial Parkway near Governor's Drive, and the Bookmark south on Memorial Parkway. The Bookmark probably has the best game selection in town but it is the farthest from Madison. (Oddly enough, I'm at Haven a lot since I work at Research Park and I live near the Bookmark so I can be found stopping by any of the stores.)
Second, I am a member of demonstration teams for several different game companies and at least once every couple of months organize a game demonstration at one of the stores. These demonstrations are free to play and I usually have a few goodies to pass out. In fact, my fiancee has organized demonstrations of the Munchkin and Burn in Hell card games at the Bookmark for tomorrow, Saturday, July 25th, at 1:00 PM, if your group would like to stop by. (I'm not sure if I will actually be there since I may be running errands. *sigh*) I believe these demonstrations are a good way to meet gamers in the area as well as learn how they play (and determine if you *want* to play with them on a more regular basis). I have an E-mail announcement list to announce these events (as well as any other game-related events I learn about in the area). It is the Rocket City Table Gamers Google Group (http://groups.google.com/group/rocket-city-table-gamers). Since it is only used to announce public game events, it is pretty low traffic.
Let me know if I can help with anything else,
Kerry

I've found Haven Comics before. I was told about a Saturday meetup before from the owners when I found it but unfortunately with my odd schedule, Saturdays aren't great for me. I work 3rd shifts Thursday-Monday.
Bookmark I've always enjoyed for as long as I can remember. I hated the fact it moved further out but I still visit like once or twice a month at least. I posted an add on their boards but not much like. I'll definitely check out the google group as soon as I get home. Don't want to do it on the work computer heh. Thanks for all the useful info :D

So basically, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are your only available game days? Ouch!
Wednesdays are new comic days at Haven Comics so the regulars usually pass through after work (5:00 PM - 6:30 PM) if you want to stop by... (but be warned: traffic on Slaughter Rd. can be killer at that time of day)
