Chronicles vs Companion

Hey fellow Paizonians, do you know what is the reason why a location/nation is treated in Pathfinder Chronicles or Pathfinder Companion (for instance Taldor in "Companion" line vs Guide to the River Kingdoms in "Chronicles") ? Size of the book ?

I've been wondering that myself, except with the Osirion in Companion vs. Katapesh in Chronicles argument...

The difference between the two was a bit muddled but in the past six months we've tried to refocus and clarify.

Chronicles products are intended for GMs and have adventure hooks and secret info that players shouldn't automatically known.

Companion products are intended for players and GMs and should not contain any info that a character familiar with that region wouldn't know. In other words, if the Queen of Cheliax is secretly a doppelganger, that would NOT appear in the Cheliax companion because it's not common knowledge.

Clear, thanks to you M. Reynolds :)

just because there is a Companion on the book doesn't mean there won't be a Chronicle does it? For example, we may get a Cheliax chronicles at some point true?

It is possible, and if we did, it would probably look something not unlike the Pathfinder Chronicles Guide to Absalom.

I'd also like to add that we're going to be a bit more predictable with the type of content you'll find in the Companions. Here's the current blurb:

"Each bimonthly 32-page Pathfinder Companion contains several player-focused articles exploring the volume’s theme as well as short articles with innovative new rules for social, magic, religious, and combat-focused characters, as well as a persona section detailing helpful NPCs and traits to better anchor the player to the campaign."
