Negative DEX and flat footed

3.5/d20/OGL

Firstly, If you have DEX of 6 do you have a better AC when flat footed than after you have acted.

As far as I can see this is true but it doesn't make sense. Surely flat footed is essentially stationary, so -DEX mod seems to launch themselves at the attack.

Secondly, a trap has a too hit 'factor'. Are you flat footed?

Cheers

PS I have no idead which forumn to post these questions too anymore! Sorry in advance.

Flatfooted specifically says that anyone who has yet to act lose their Dexterity bonus to AC. It says nothing of the penalty, so I'd say that the -2 from 6 DEX applies to flat-footed, and if memory serves that's the general (and perhaps official) consensus.

As far as traps and AC goes, I'd say that if the party is aware there is a trap (the rogue found it), then they wouldn't be flat-footed if said rogue botches his disable device check. If they just blunder into a trap with no knowledge of it being there, then I'd say they're flat-footed.
This is just my thoughts. I have no idea if there's an official ruling on this.

Once you know the trap is there you get a +1 AC against it, and are not flat footed. It's somewhere in the PHB.
