EDIT: Oh and Wicht. It's Rugby League.
Gotcha. Rugby instead of soccer makes it much easier to google correctly. And thus educate myself.

Sorry Wicht there are two types of Rugby - The real Rugby.... Rugby Union and the soft as... pretend Rugby League. ;-)
When people say Rugby they are referring to Union. For League its either Rugby League or League.
It can be described this way Rugby Union is a barbaric game played by gentlemen and Rugby League is a gentleman's game played by barbarians.
There is also Australian Rules Football which we in the northern states often call aerial ping pong or kick and giggle.
There is also some silly game played with a round ball. That we are not to bad at even though very few people are interested in it :-)
I have played Soccer, Aussie Rules, and Rugby League. I can say I enjoyed playing Aussie Rules the most although its not a good game to watch on the TV.
I find Union the best to watch on the TV.
There you go a rather pompous and biased lecture on Australian sporting culture done for free by the 8th D.

My poor dad now lives in Bris-Vegas can not bring him self to support the Reds or the Morons ;-b he is still a Blues man surrounded by Queenslanders although he does like the Lions...
Meh, nuthin' wrong with that. I go for Penrith in the League, but I live in Newcastle and have done all my life.

I don't really get that it was in Melbourne.
Particularly doesn't seem smart given the whole swine flu thing down there. Now you're going to have all these returning people having to 'voluntarily' quarantine their kids. I'm not suggesting we should be restricting interstate travel or anything, but holding a major sporting event that be its very nature is going to attract a lot (mostly?) interstate visitors in our newest swine flu capital doesn't seem like a great idea.
On the other hand, I think the whole swine flu thing is for the most part a big media and politician hyped thing that is not really as bad as we're all being led to believe ... so its probably not so bad after all.

Its the Rugby League - Since Super League killed the game, when have good ideas and Rugby League been (I take that back and say since the demise of the Newtown Jets) associated with the game.
Swine Flu = State governments trying to distract people from the economy... I would say the Federal government but they just got themselves a get out of jail free card and will want to rub the oppositions nose in it..

I suppose I am at least I didnt call them the Blue Bags -
They used to be my second team - St George and then Illawarra were my first teams.
The merger really killed the game for me. One of the best days of my life was watching Illawara play St George at Steelers Stadium.
I knew that Illawara would loose out in the merger... I wouldn't be unhappy if it went back to the way it was.
