Creating characters for PaizoCon PFS sessions?

PaizoCon General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

Currently I only have one PFS character. I started at 1st level and have only progressed to 2nd level.

What should I do to get ready for playing in several PFS sessions at PaizoCon? Can I only make new 1st level characters that have to "earn" their way up by playing, or can I jump in and make, for example, a new 5th level character?

I am signed up for #23 (tiers 1-5) and #24 (tiers 1 to 7).

Thanks,
Lori

I have the same question.

You need to make a 1st level character (or continue the one you've been playing for Pathfinder Society) and advance through the scenarios. I'd highly recommend that you go here and download the guidebook--it contains everything you need to know about getting started in the Pathfinder Society.

We will most likely have pre-gen characters there for anyone who wants to just jump into a game and play, but we won't allow folks to create higher level PCs from scratch and just jump in and play.

Josh - thank you for the clarification. It's exactly what I needed to know.

Thanks!

Does "most likely" mean definitely? My husband and I signed up for a tier 7-11 adventure (I assume tiers means levels?) and haven't done any PFS adventures before. We will be able to play with premades? Or should we re-assign those slots to a lower level adventure and bring our 1st level characters?

This'd be good for GMs to know too. I'm running #24 and am not sure if I should make some pre-gens myself or if they'll be provided...and, if it's for me to do, then should they all be level 1 or higher or what?

There will be pre-gen characters.

I will provide the pre-gen characters.

Wonderful. Thank you, sir, for the info. Looking forward to reading the scenario and preparing. If I get it soon enough I will take my local group through it this Sunday as a dry-run (though they are not PFS members).

While Josh has said (above) that there will be pre-gens, I would consider switching the games out for lower tiered adventures as these would allow you to play the character you created and you can see him or her grow over the course of the convention and beyond. Unless that's of no interest to you, but if you'd like to grow a PFS character over time, I don't see a reason not to play in a tier your PC can get credit for other than that the story you're most interested in is one of the higher tier scenarios.

You need to run the scenario you're schedule to run--unless I'm confused about what you're getting at.

May those of us running provide alternate pre-gens?

No. The pregens need to be balanced to what a full-blown member of the Pathfinder Society's character would be. The pregens I'm providing are the only ones that can be used.

Josh - I'm pretty sure the discussion was about which tier to play, not run. Specifically concerning GnomeMaiden's question a few posts up. So, yes, you were confused. Happens to the best of us! ;-)

I meant 1st level ones for my low tier game, but that makes sense - thanks Josh!

Yes, I meant that one might wish to switch their schedule so that they played only in low-tier events so that they could build that same PC up organically over the course of the con.
