I'm playing in a group where we have just gained 4th level and was looking for advice.
I wanted to try out a familiar from the Arcane Power book (and dragon 274) and was wondering what people though would be the best for a human illusionist? I've looked through our DM's copies and I'm having a tough time choosing any that appeal.
(Due to the character, I'm trying to steer clear of creatures that make you 'tougher').
And another question: are familiars actually worth it?

As to its worth, truth be told does it fit your character's concept? Then it's worth it!
Also, take a look at the expanded familiars in Dragon Magazine. They had an article last month that added several familiars to the list.
