Twitter may not the optimal social network

Is it possible to go into an email service and 'send to all'? No I dont mean the list in your addressbok, or even all the people who use *@hotmail.com. I mean every email address, no matter where it is.

If this were possible, it would make other social broadcast sites like twitter irrelevent.

Yes. It's called spam. This would piss off the 99.9% of recipients who couldn't give a rat's patootie what you or anyone else wants to say.

Also, given most people can't seem to get the hang of not using "reply to all" to reply to one message sent to the whole department, I don't really want to give a couple of billion people the capacity to crash my inbox.

Considering the publicly accessible internet started out as a bunch of public bulliten boards, I would have to say why the hell not. Capitalism has railroaded it back into the control of fewer and fewer hands to the point where secrecy and confusion have harmed it.
