Elf Avenger/Zealous Assassin/Harbringer of Doom 23

A late confirmation that yes, the shifting of Dzrak and Theren is correct.

Genryuu stands and waits patiently. As if waiting for the right time to strike.

Total Defense again.

Thanks Theren. This brings us back to Old Chorro again. I'll give him a while to check in, otherwise I'll roll his save for him and figure out something for him to do other than sit on a rock being a target.

That's right. Which square would you like to be in?

The one you chose is just fine

Old Chorro is likely to be sitting this one out, so we'll move right along.

Aware that the movement options are diminishing and unlikely to improve, the heroes brace themselves for another round of combat. Chorro and Snow take advantage of their immobilisation to hold a guarding position.

Lavender sweeps his arm at the nearest opponents, bellowing "Begone!" One of the ghosts vanishes, to reappear on the far north of the field, while Sir Drzak appears in front of Lam Thovir. "A present for you, old friend," Lavender laughs.

Shunt Between Worlds vs SD (twice), G1, G2 Will (1d20+26=41, 1d20+26=46, 1d20+26=40, 1d20+26=29, 4d6+12=26)

Ok, that's a crit against SD for Crit damage vs SD (36+5d6=61), and probably a hit against G1 for 26 (13) psychic. Teleport SD to H17, teleport G1 to A14.

Lavender's merry response bloodies Sir Drzak and plonks him invitingly in front of Lam for demolition. G2 is also removed from the centre of the melee and unceremoniously dumped next to a startled looking Risenguard.

You chaps are making mincemeat of these guys. I am starting to feel that this encounter is extremely underpowered. We shall see.

just got home from work.... will either post tomorrow or DM can post for me... just dont have the energy to read up

Immeral ignores everything except the now immoblised death knight and hurls balls of force towards him, watching in satisfaction as the arcane blows land true. Somehow he is unable to dismiss the powers holding his own feet to the ground.

Magic Missile (Ref) v Sir Drzak (1d20+27=39, 4d4+9=16). (Including Circlet attack/damage bonus.)

Save v immobilisation (1d20=9)

The Risenguard move to bring themselves back within range of their leader and fire at Father Theren, alone and exposed.
Attack v Father Theren (1d20 26=37, 1d20 26=40, 1d20 26=36, 1d20 26=46, 1d20 26=46, 1d20 26=30, 1d20 26=32). Only the two crits hit. 15hp from each. 30hp damage to Theren.

G2 floats forward and unleashes a terrifying burst of necrotic power on the companions. Lam, Immeral and Gilliam succomb and are forced backwards into the zone of horrifying whispers.

G2 makes no sound as it advances on Theren, seeking to take the avenger's body as its own. A howl of frustrated anguish rises in the air as the attack fails.

Burst of Terror (close burst 5, v Will, targets enemies). Necrotic damage. On hit, target is pushed 5 squares, dazed and immoblised (save ends both).

Genryu
Immeral

.
Hits Lam, Immeral and Gilliam. 10hp necrotic damage each. All three dazed and immobilised. (apologies, should only have rolled one set of damage, so took the first one.).

Ghostly Possession (Will) v Theren. On hit target is dominated (se). (1d20 26=30)

Theren slowly steps away from the ghost when there is suddenly a bright flash of light, and when it clears Theren has slashed into Dzrak.

Shifting to I15, using Avenging Shadow on Dzrak(blinded, save ends), then using Strike From Empty Air to teleport to I17. 1d20+24=42, 42 damage, or 53 if Censure of Pursuit applies.

I don't think Censure of Pursuit does apply here as Drzak was teleported by Lavender. Not a willing move.

Forced once more to confront the vengeful figure of Father Theren, the death knight bides his time and draws on his resources. Ironically, he cannot cast off the luring hold of the ghostly terrain.

Second wind. Regains 110hp and is no longer bloodied. +2 to defenses to end of his next turn.
Save v zone immbolisation (1d20 2=6). Argghh. These guys are such rubbish!

He has a Second Wind! Gah! Also, you do remember that Avenging Shadow only lasts to the end of my next turn if it's used against something other than my Oath of Enmity target, which unless something bizzare is going on is still Sir Dzrak?

Avenging Shadow? Where is it - can't find it on your character sheet - am clearly being dumb...

Elf Avenger/Zealous Assassin/Harbringer of Doom 23

What, it should be there. Zealous Assassin, 12th level Utility, Daily? EDIT: Between Oath of Pursuit and Blade of The Zealot on my sheet.

Doh. I am being, as I suspected, an idiot. Thank you. So, even if Sir Drzak wasn't blind, he'd still be unable to see Father Theren and Father T is invisible to him. Nice power. Both effects will wear off at the same time then.

Alright, he isn't blinded unless someone else did it, I completely misremembered what it actually did. Still, my invisibility still should be Save Ends because he's been my Oath of Enmity target this entire fight!

Father Theren wrote:

Got to it before the edit window expired. Sorry about that. Avenger is new to me as well as epic. We'll get there.

dazed and immobilized? huh. here's my so-called action.

"Great Pelor, use the light of your truth burn this unholy thing into the ground. Please?" Gilliam prays as he casts his holy symbol forth.
A bright light quickly illuminates the entire area as it flashs toward the death knight.

searing light d20+27, 33 vs. Ref, if hit, 23hp of radiant damage and SD is blind until the end of my next turn.

Then he shakes off the magical effect.

save=18

"Thank Pelor." he mumbles.

Lam closes his eyes as a translucent outline appears above him. The divine spirit gestures, relieving some of his suffering, then fades away.

Cleansing Spirit Save (1d20+2=20)

Second Save (1d20=18)

On my next chance I'm gonna try to use my Wrath of the Gods which will be a close burst 1 which will give me and each ally a +8 to damage until the end of the encounter, so hopefully around my turn I can find a way to get as many of you as possible.

I won't be able to update this until later, but if Genryu and Lav like to post then I'll stitch all this together when I get back from audition hell. Their actions are unlikely to interact badly with each other and none of the baddies can do much as an interrupt.

Gilliam's attack misses by the way. Even without the +2 to defenses, Sir D would have shrugged that off. I know I'm whining excessively about his rubbish-ness, but he's reasonably tricked out defensively.

"Enough" his voice feels as if it shakes the very earth.

"This has gone on long enough. Can't believe you're making an old man draw his weapon, HMPH" he slowly walks toward Theren and Drzak.

"Let me introduce myself. Though I doubt you'll have time to remember it." He reaches into his bag and draws a massive maul.

"I am Commander of the Nentir military squads, Genryuu Yeegar"

With that he slams the steel head into the ground.

Minor draw; Move to J18; Howling Strike on Drzak, 1d20+26=39; Damage 4d6+3d6+41=67, if the attack misses I do 8 damage due to hammer rhythm. Genryuu also takes 5 damage due to his weapons bloodclaw property (puts me at 200 hp).

Rev:

Spoiler:
Due to a change in plans, I'll be around all day. Will probably wait for the post-hell update.

Gilliam's attack cannot penetrate Sir Drzak's formidable defences, although the cleric has cause to thank his god as his feet free themselves and his mind clears.

Lam similarly shakes off the effects of the snaring terrain.

Genryu marches forward. Unless that maul is a reach 2 weapon, you can't hit him from J18. You'd have to be at I18, which is where I've put you. If so, you are immobilised (se), and the zone counts as difficult terrain.

Mighty though his blow is, Genryu's maul misses his mark. The reverberations still send tooth shaking damage through the death knight, but the blow itself is a failure.

Lavender swings his arm in a broad vertical arc and brings down a fist at a point in front of himself. At the same time, a great spectral fist comes crushing down at a point between the ghosts (H13).

Crushing Titan's Fist vs Ref - G1, G2, R7, force (1d20+23=33, 1d20+23=28, 1d20+23=28, 3d8+12=22) Bah. In case that hits something, it's immobilized TEOMNT. In any case, entering a sqaure within burst 2 of H13 costs 4 extra squares TEOMNT.

Lavender - does that 4 square penalty apply to all creatures or just enemies?

Blue dots indicate zone of extremely slow movement (4 extra squares to enter) until the end of Lavender's next turn.

Despite the ferocity of his titanic blow, only the Risenguard suffers as it splinters into dusty shards to lie spread over the snow. The aftershock causes the ground to sway, making movement almost impossible.

Lavender seems to recall a similar situation, perhaps from a past life?

1000 lives (33+1d6=35) Does that hit G1?

Lavender Glow wrote:

Immeral fires another magic missle at the death knight

Magic Missle (1d20+26=36) forgot to add 1 from circlet should be 37
Damage ( add1 from circlet) (4d4+9=21)

Immeral's magic missile bounces off the death knight and the Risenguard move closer.

A rain of arrows fly towards the pesky mage and Lavender is roundly peppered.
Risenguard v Lavender (1d20 26=41, 1d20 26=38, 1d20 26=37, 1d20 26=43, 1d20 26=41, 1d20 26=44). 60hp damage to Lavender. For once, they all hit.

Worse follows. G2 floats menacingly towards the deva and extends a spectral finger. Against his will, the deva finds himself overtaken.
Ghostly possession v Lavender. On hit target is dominated. (1d20 26=37). Hits. Lavender is dominated.

G1 shimmers towards Theren and tries the same trick. Like Lavender, he cannot withstand the deathly power and falls beneath the sway of the ethereal being.
Ghostly possession v Theren. On hit target is dominated. (1d20 26=40). [Hits. Theren is dominated.

The ghosts are no longer on the map as they are currently occupying Lavender and Theren. DOMINATION. The target can take one action (as DAZE). Only at-will powers may be used.

Rev:

Spoiler:
Dang, look what I just found: Inescapable Force (Force powers deal full+1d10 to insubstantial). I don't know how far if at all you want to retcon, but I've hit ghosts with force effects twice -- Force Volley on 6/23, and Titan's Fist yesterday. This is what I don't like about building high-level characters :(. Your call.

ETA:

When the arrows strike Lavender, he blurs into motion, reappearing at S18.

Boots of Furious Speed. Don't suppose this put me out of range of Dominate attack? :-)

OK. I'll take a look later today Lavender. The full damage is no problem. Boots of speed does take you out of range. Let me see when I've done with the live game.

Elf Avenger/Zealous Assassin/Harbringer of Doom 23

Theren goes limp, his blade almost slipping from his hands. Suddenly his grip tightens and he slashs into Genryu, who stumbles towards Dzrak from the force of the blow. He then steps behind Genryu, his head still hanging limply.

Using Overwhelming Strike on Genryu, sliding him to I18 and Theren to his former square. 1d20+24=43, 2d12+7=23, Still Dominated

Theren, what our good GM left out is that the ghost picks your one action . . .

Elf Avenger/Zealous Assassin/Harbringer of Doom 23

Uh, whoops? Anyway, Rev, if you were going to do something different, feel free to use those rolls. If I'm going to kill the party, I'm going to do it well.

Lavender is right, but that looks pretty good to me. Attacking Genryu fits the bill nicely.

As Lavender's boots move the deva out of range in a nick of time, Theren's eyes glaze over and he launches a vicious attack on his old friend. There is no way to avoid the blow. 23hp damage to Genryu.

Sir Drzak laughs as he is moved to a favourable position by his foe and aims another savage blow at the warden.
Soulsword v Genryu (1d20 30=43, 2d12 18 10=39). 39hp damage to Genryu. Including Theren's attack, that is 62hp this round.

Strengthened by his success, he is no longer immobilised and suddenly looks a lot more dangerous. The smile widens as Theren comes back to sight for him.

why am I still immobilized? I shook that off last turn.

move to L16, sacred flame on SD, 1d20+27 vs Ref, 37, 2d6+12, 20 radiant damage, and Theren gets a saving throw to get rid of that ghost. (that is a save situation, right?)

Apologies Gilliam. You're not immobilised. I left it there by accident.

With a simple gesture, Gilliam calls on Pelor's power to damage Sir Dzrak and grant his old friend the help he needs to rid himself of the invading ghost.
