So those who remember Pretend to be a Time traveller Day - December 8 (floating around this forum thanks to one of the residents). So I decided to get you off the lounge for a Day.
WELCOME TO FOSSIL DIG DAY - MAY 1 (2009)
Prep:
4 wooden Stakes, Hammer, Adult supervision, String Line, Knife or scissors, garden hand shovel, Digital Camera, Kitchen Sieve, Large plastic serving tray.
Begin:
Stake out a 1m x 1m square in your garden (or other site where you may have decided to band together in your community and conduct a community dig) and mark it off with a string grid.
Now you get to dig down through the soil untill you hit the realy hard rock or 1/2m deep (For Safety reasons you dont want to go to deep).
Sieve the dirt through the kitchen seive. and watch for small fossils that might not be at first visible to you. Larger fossils found in stone will be detectable by the way the rock breaks along a seam.
Discovery:
Once you have found any fossils (or more horrorfying, Archaeology) photograph it and post it. Dont forget to post any links here to what you have discovered.
