Wait for the restaurant wars, and hedge your bets on Taco Bell, I hear they have a vested interest in several good squads already.

Arkansas Mystery Deepens

So now people in the area have reported 12 loud explosions on New Years Eve, and initial medical exams suggest birds hit a wall before they fell from the Sky. Why only one bird species and not all?

Does volcanic activity cause sonic shockwaves or is this just a consequence of Fireworks? What of the fish?

I would agree, except the fish are all one species. Looks like to me that we may have some highly contagious, highly lethal, very quick virus that jumped species when bird ate the fish.

Short of a Magnetic Pole reversal (or EMP) affecting some common aspect in the brains of the Birds and the Fish...I cant say.

I suppose it could be a virus. The Birds fled in one direction (125 miles) from the fish. Seems a bit odd.

Either way this should affect more creatures...not just two select species.

Considering this has been happening across the world I think it is safe to say it is probably polar magnetics, maybe the north pole is about to move.

So what are the thoughts here on the shooting of the Congress Woman in Arizona?

As a Canadian coming from a country with pretty tight gun control laws, I often wonder when I see stories like this, why Americans are so pro firearm (I know many aren't). It seems like any yahoo can get their hands on an automatic weapon and cause shit whenever they want. Carrying a gun in the US wouldn't make me feel safe. It would just make always be thinking about what a f%@!ed up country I'm living in. I would feel safe living in a country where I knew no one else was carrying a gun either. Of course gun control doesn't always prevent gun violence. We have our share up here as well (see the Montreal Massacre several years back), but I don't feel like I have to worry about everyone and their brother walking around with an Uzi under their coat.

Guns don't kill people. Republicans kill people.

Seriously though, it's a sad day. The constant Left vs Right war of rhetoric in this country has drawn a schizophrenic little moth to the flame and has killed five people including a nine year-old child.

It's not a gun issue. The same guy could have made a bomb.

This guy was in the US military. They trained him to kill, and it looks like they trained him to be a good shot, and now he has turned on them.

How good a shot do you need to be when you are firing an automatic weapon into a crowd at close range?

Sure, even if there was extensive gun control in the US he probably could have made a bomb or still got his hands on a gun. However, I contend that it does take a bit more effort and know how to set up a bomb than use an automatic weapon, so if hadn't of had such easy access to a gun he may not have committed the crime he did or maybe he would have. I watched the youtube videos he posted, he clearly seems like a guy with an antigoverment agenda who was ready to go out and do something radical, which turned out to be shooting a lot of people (assuming those videos were actually posted by him and accurately express his true views, and are not some sort of fabrication, setup or ruse). It just seems to me that if there are less weapons around that are designed to kill people, there will be less instances of people killing each other.

At this point, all we know is that he went to MEPS.
MEPS is "military entrance processing center."

You go to MEPS a couple times before they ship you to Basic Training, and they give you a once over.
No training involved, just a bunch of MEPS pogues being douchey.

Well, first, it was a semi-auto and not an automatic weapon.

And a gun-control debate can be had, but I think the gun in his hand is the end result of many underlying causes, the easiest to spot being that he evidently should have been getting better medical/psychological care.

I've been pro-2nd Amendment all my life until recently when right-wing nutjobs started bringing guns to Obama rallies. Now I'm pretty ambivalent. But taking away legal gun ownership is not going to stop crazy people from getting guns or carrying out mass-killings once they reach their boiling point.

And now it appears he was never in the US military.

He volunteered but was rejected for service, for reasons they won't divulge.

The tragedy in Arizona was probably caused by just one or more random nutcase(s) with little to no political aspect. My thoughts and condolences to the victims and their families.
