Golarion: A new era of "dark" role-playing?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Knowing my playing group, the people of Golarion are likely to be saved from the revival of the Thassilonian Empire by the coming of a Second Darkness.

So, what would life be like with civilization in ruins and the world blanketed under a thick shroud?

Hmm...thick shroud? So, no sun? How about an uprising of vampires? It could be something similar to the Vampire Kingdoms in Rifts Mexico. Mortals become thralls and cattle. Maybe they take Ustilav, then spread elsewhere. That could be very interesting if you have a CotCT campaign as well. There's some link to vamps in the "Continuing the Campaign" section of the last module.

Shady creatures galore taking the surface when the hated sunlight has been blocked out. Vampires, Shadows and Wraiths walking the world with impunity. Dogs and cats living together. Plants withering and dying.

Oh! Perhaps it isn't the entire world that's shrouded in darkness. The treants could band together to animate and move the remaining trees in a cross-country trek to the light. All fleshy things be damned! (Especially if they get in the way of masses of walking trees...)

No plants, so most animals and people would die. Only those with potent magic would live to fight vampires, but the bloodsuckers would run out of victims and perish too...

an empty world with a few druids, clerics and wizards...

Silver Crusade

Tension and/or open warfare between Darkland natives and refugees from the surface.

Geb presses its advantage on Nex(though Nex would fare better than most other nations).

Worldwound gets that much worse as the Mendevian defenders weaken. To a lesser degree, the orcs of Belkzen push back against Lastwall.

Dwarves possibly rise to prominence once more as the saviors of civilization as in the previous Age of Darkness?

Ustulav wonders what the big deal is.

Zon-Kuthon parties hard.

Zon-Kuthon's blue dragon warlord should do well too. :D

... until Wizards pulls the licence.

It's quite possible that the Second Darkness isn't as severe as the first one.

ROTFL !!!

Thank you for brightening my day ;-)

If it turns really apocalyptocataclysmicosmic, Golarion might end up as a nice stage for a remake of the dreadful Highlander II.
