Anyone know of any really good ones? I need something to listen to on my ipod while I'm at work. I'd like to try something new but paying forty-plus dollars for one that I may not even like is a hard pill to swallow.
So, does anyone here listen to these? As not all books are on CD ofcourse.
So.. suggestions?

I'd check out Audible.com they've got a good selection of audio books and are compatible with the iPod (except the shuffle). They have a reasonable subscription that you can get 1 book a month for like 10 bucks a month. I had a subscription when I was working in a manufacturing job and could sit and listen to stuff.
Also the price was right so I didn't worry too much about trying new things.

I've been doing the audiobook thing for a few years now, listening to them on my commute to and from work. I don't seem to have the time to just sit and read an honest-to-gawd book anymore.
Right now, I am listening to The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It's been interesting so far, but (as a father of two boys) a little hard on psyche.

I'd recommend audible as well. Audible.de has the same subscription-option.

I really enjoyed the Dark Tower audiobooks. Your library probably has them, otherwise they are a bit pricy, but worth it. They are unabridged, so they will take a while to get through. Excellent for lunch breaks and long drives, or bus and metro commutes. Stay away from A Song of Fire and Ice--the voice actor's accent is so thick, and his reading so bland---just stay away.
