I'm really intrigued by this site. I'm really considering getting a charter subscription and of course, possibly running a PbP here... ;)
So, how's this coming?

I'm thinking I may start it up within the next two weeks, but first I have to subscribe to the site and check out the material, I'm hoping I'll have some time to do so this weekend, then I can start everything up next week.

I will reserve a place in the PbP for you, though, and post here again once I've started it!

Oh thank heavens. I was just about to start my own PbP for it, but this is much more sane...

Did you subscribe? I would be fine with you playing even if you had, but it'd be nice to be able to surprise the players with what's going on in the dungeon...

As someone whose seen Empire of the Ghouls.. I think people are nuts for spending that kind of money.

I agree completely! Got hosed on this product IMO. And to be honest, I was excited about Dungeon A Day when I first read the ads for it. But then once it launched, I wasn't as impressed. Oh, it's purdy and shiny and offers the "be a charter member" badge of honor for gaming geeks all over the world to unite under the banner BUT...once you boil it down it's still 90 bucks (give or take) a year.

And for 90 bucks...I can get so much more product on my own. Hell, a 4-day pass to Gen Con is only 68 bucks! And eBay is loaded with dirt cheap gaming products - I've bought a ton since January and haven't spent close to 90 bucks yet, and these will give me many years of gaming goodness.
RPGNow had a huge sale last week (is it still going on?), Paizo, Green Ronin, DriveThruRPG, and other sites have great deals all the time. So...I'm saving my dough and spending it a little more wisely...for me.

As for "you get Monte Cook"...well, I have nothing against Mr. Cook, but I tend to find most of his products...overwhelming I guess. He puts his heart and soul into a product; as we say in the mountains, he "goes whole hog" :)
But this tends to mean that there is so much product that the cost to play the game is through the roof. And the same goes, IMO, for Dungeon A Day.

For you fellers who bought in, keep us posted.

I have, but if there is a PbP that I know I need to wait for, then I will stop reading. I have no problems separating player knowledge and character knowledge as a rule anyway, but I won't go any further.

I'll just have to content myself with character builds...

Not to push you at all, but would you be doing 3.5, Pathfinder, or something else...?

Side note on running dungeon crawls in PbP.

Spoiler:
Just a warning: my experiences with PbP/PbEM dungeon crawls haven't been that great. There's sometimes a lot of:

DM (Monday): "Do you go left or right?"
Player 1 (Monday): "Left."
Player 2 (Tuesday): "I don't care."
Player 3 (Tuesday): "I listen for noise."
DM (Wednesday): "You don't hear anything."
Player 2 (Wednesday): "I'll vote left, just to get things moving."
DM (Thursday): "Player 4, do you have an opinion?"
Player 4 (Friday): "Left, I guess."
Player 1 (Saturday): "I check for traps every 5 feet."
DM (next Monday): "O.K., you turn left and you don't find any traps in the next 20 feet of corridor. There are two doors in the corridor and then it ends at a T intersection. What now?"
Player 3 (next Tuesday): "Can you post a map?"
[...snore]

Maybe Monte's dungeon philosophy is different though (fewer, larger rooms vs. many small, sometimes empty rooms, e.g.). Or maybe you can get away with having a party leader (or even a decision algorithm of some kind) decide questions like "Left or right?" and "Open the door or keep going?".

My own experience has, thankfully, been quite different from that, but I can't overstress the importance of mapping if at all possible - I'm just about positive it's what's kept things going for us.

Fortunately, since the maps for each section of the dungeon are nicely contained in their own separate .jpg, and the entire floor map is also available in that format, it should be pretty easy to use Photobucket and some pretty simple photo program - hell, you could do it in Paint - to keep everyone basically on target.

I'm pretty sure I'll go 3.5, core only. I will allow access to stuff that is used in the dungeon, though... And I have no worries about you subscribing, it's just good to know!

You have a good point, it will be difficult, but I'm hoping I can get a good crew that can update frequently to avoid the major problems. I'm playing in a dungeon crawld PbP right now, and it's going pretty well so far. Of course, we are a very small group.

Maybe I'll try to keep the group size low for this PbP, that would most likely help.
