1978 Pittsburgh Steelers vs. 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers

Is it unfair to compare the current world champions to the ’78 Steelers? Offenses may be a bit lopsided, but I think an argument could be made for defenses.

Liberty's Edge

Will they be playing under the 1978 rules or the current powderpuff rules?

That is a good point. Lets hear results for both.

78 Steelers. One beat the Cowboys when they had a real team. The others just beat the Cardinals...(no offense, guys, I was rooting for the Cardinals...don't tell my brother-in-law.)

Ok, quick and dirty:

1978 rules: The Steel Curtain pummels the '08 Steelers O-line, Hamm, Shell and Lambert reduce Ward and Holmes to blubbering jellyfish when they try to cross the middle, Harris and Bleier run rampant through the Steelers.

'78 Steelers win 35-17.

2008 rules: '78 Steelers rack up 250 penalty yards, as 99% of their accustomed defensive tactics are now personal fouls under the "No Fun League's" current powderpuff rules. '08 Steelers benefit from an abundance of 1st and goals.

'08 Steelers 24 - 21

The best argument for going back to the old rules I've ever heard.

sniffing the air

I smell bias and cynicism.
