How Do the Blessed Angels Fit into the Age of Worms?

Age of Worms Adventure Path

The modules are pretty explicit about the fact that the Blessed Angels are not Kyuss's minions(which is why the are unaffected by Manzorian's dimensional lock on the city). However, it's not really clear why they've chosen to work for Lashonna or, by extension, Kyuss?

So what do you think their motivation is in all of this? Why would a lawful evil race dedicated to harvesting souls for use in the Blood War want to release a chaotic evil god dedicated to destroying all life? It seems a little counterintuitive, don't you think?

I'm asking this question more because I'm trying to write them into my own epic continuation of the Age of Worms campaign. I do have some of my own ideas, of course. However, I'm curious to know what others think. Let me know.

As I recall, Lashanna owns a magic item that allows her to summon and control the Blessed Angels. This item previously belonged to Zeech's (now dead) wife, who was herself a cleric of Hextor (a lawful evil deity. So it's believable that Erinyes devils, also LE, would do his bidding, act as servants to his minions, etc.).

So - to answer your question - they are not helping by *choice* but by *compulsion*. The 'devil box' is basically an artifact-level magic item,
doing a kind of super "summon monster / summon planar ally" spell.

At least, that's how I played it...

Wait, I'm confused. Is this from the module, or is this just how you explained it in your own game? If it's from the module, do you know where? Let me know.

The answer is provided in the last module of the AP: Dawn of a new Age. Lashonna owns a minor artefact the allows her to control the angels. Having them act as guardians of the city is a decoy, because they are Lashonna's personal lapdogs.

I'll have to check that out.

Allow me to correct myself. It is a major artifact called Baalphegor's Grace. It is described on p. 71 of Dungeon # 135.

Yeah, I found it yesterday. Thank you.

By the way, I'm really glad you pointed this out to me. I was working on a concept for a female archdevil character as one of the primary villains in my campaign. The fact that I can just use Baalphegor really rocks my socks. Of course, I'm going to have to bump up her CR. The stat block that EN World put together just isn't quite high enough for the level of my campaign.

Baalphegor's stat block.
