Liberty's Edge

This show airs Sundays at 9 PM. Centered around a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf who are all flat-mates, it's better than I thought It would be (it was branded as dramatic comedy, but I thought it came off very serious with some well-timed moments of comic relief).

The story is interesting and the writing is pretty good, too. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

See now wonky shows work when done in dry British humor, if American's make the show they come off as contrived, I'm going to have to check this one out.

Scarab Sages

Great another show I'll have to wait 2 years to see.

Would you be willing to pay a $200 annual subscription fee to the BBC in order to access BBC content?

Depends on the conditions.

I'd rather pay the £130-odd for a TV licence myself, but then I'm in the UK and I need one for my TV. It sounds like a good idea for non-British people though!

Liberty's Edge

Slightly off-topic follows:

Spoiler:
That's what I mean--and there's currently no such program to allow expats or foreigners outside of the UK to watch current BBC content. I'm not really complaining about that, because I fully understand that BBC programming is paid for largely by the TV license Brits fork over each year. I'm lucky right now, because I can count on my metallic friends in the upper atmosphere and good mates at the British Embassy here in Korea. Next to that, my sister (who lives and works in London) records the shows I like and ones she thinks I'll like and mails the DVD to me every couple weeks.

Without any of these though--and even with them--I'd be more than happy to pay the same license fee, even with a Foreign Viewer Tax, if it meant I could receive access to standard quality current programming. Personally, I'd be willing to pay even more for HD access. But I watch and enjoy more BBC content than anything else, and I have no idea if I'm part of a small or large demographic. I've recently written the BBC with this idea. Unfortunately, it might be too costly to implement--a cost to be footed by the British public, or drawn from licensing income, which is still the monies of the UK citizen.

I watched the pilot ages ago and loved it.

I am looking forwards to the next bit. It was much harder edged that i thought i would be.

And yeah, the Beeb is great.

Liberty's Edge

Episode 2 runs tonight, for those keeping up.

This series be serious becoming awesome.

Liberty's Edge

Awesome show--my biggest gripe, only 6 episodes to a series. Owen's perfidy caught me unawares; and I miss the 80s Goth dude already. Very nicely done. Now, what exactly is Mitchell up to with, "I'm in..."

Scarab Sages

I actually like the vampire from the pilot over the one in the series.

It is like there has been 8 eps already... they go for nearly an hour.. a good 55 mins.

I like this show but it seems to beginning to repeat itself... like going around and around in circles.

That's one of the nice things about most BBC programs--they're not advertisement-dependent, so you get almost a full hour--and a couple of episodes of Spooks ran around 62 minutes.

I haven't noticed any repetition at all, though. If anything, I feel like the arc is advancing a little too fast. I also missed the pilot last year, so maybe that's it.

How many episodes?

I notice Demons went for 6... has being human only got six?

I know they are working on a season 2.

All done at six :(

god it was good.

Scarab Sages

I have to say it picked up in 5 and 6.

Why is BBC doing such short series? Demons was good as well but only 5 hour eps.

They really need to do more eps.

*Shrugs* I think it comes down to budget. Being human, despite being brillient, is a nique programe. There for they have only short series, so they can judge interest from series to series. The upshot is that we don't get the firefly effect here. Things don't get cancelled half way through, they just run for one whole series.

This year has seen several shorted series. Spooks being cut back is my biggest complaint.

don't get me started on that one

Six episodes is the average length for a British TV series (or it always was, anyway; I haven't watched much TV recently). As Zombieneighbours said, budget is probably part of the reason, but I think it's also because British TV series are usually written by just one or two people, whereas US series are often written by committees and/or by different people each episode. So an individual writer probably writes about the same number of episodes per year on average.

I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions to this, but I think it's generally true.
