Paizo, licensed games?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Tried posting this in 'other RPGs' but it just kind of languished. I was curious if Paizo ever thought about doing licensed games? I just found out our very own Sean K. Reynolds worked on the cancelled Fallout project and was thinking "I'd love to have a Fallout tabletop game."

Yeah yeah I know it was originally based on GURPS and stuff, but I like the SPECIAL system. And it'd be cool to have a Campaign Setting/Game system book for SPECIAL and Fallout. Especially with the popularity of Fallout 3 it'd be a good time for one.

After spending several years working on licenced products (most notably D&D with Dragon and Dungeon magazine and Star Wars with Star Wars Insider), Paizo's kind of at a place now where we're at the other end of things—with Pathfinder, we've got our own brand that's doing phenomenally well, and as a result we'll probably be continuing to focus our efforts there for the immediate future.

Fallout 3 is indeed a great game, but the time between concept and published material for RPG books is about a year. Even if we hired an author to work on a Fallout game today, it'd probably not be in print until the end of the year. And of course, we wouldn't even be able to start without working out licensing stuff, which would probably add several months to the process beyond that. By which time Fallout 3 will be over a year old.

But again, at this point, Paizo's not really looking to work on licensed products from other companies. At least not until we're done getting Pathfinder fully on its feet, and probably not for a good time thereafter.
